The Katie Vick storyline has been considered one of the worst angles in the history of WWE. It all began in an episode of Monday Night Raw on October 7, 2002.
The people behind this infamous gimmick in Raw history were Vince McMahon and Bruce Pritchard.
Triple H was involved in the scheme all the while too. The storyline really trended on twitter when it broke, the WWE will not forget that angle anytime soon.
All the parties involved learned a valuable lesson and were forced to tame their overactive imaginations.
Even though storylines are what make pro wrestling fascinating, many people wondered why Vince McMahon allowed it to linger that long.
This storyline was no doubt the most talked-about angle in WWE so far.
Who is Katie Vick?
According to Kane, Katie Vick was his friend who at a point in his life, he thought was the only person who actually cared for him.
She, unfortunately, died in a car accident when Kane was driving her home after a night out.
How the Katie Vick Storyline Began
On the episode of Monday Night RAW on the 7th of October 2002, Triple H took out Kane’s tag team partner on the episode backstage.
Kane was left alone to defend the WWE Tag Team Title in the match. He was able to win the match but got interrupted by Triple H.
The latter claimed he knew Kane’s secret and at that point, he asked Kane if he remembered Katie Vick. Triple H then told everyone that Kane murdered Katie 10 years ago.
In the next episode, Kane agreed he knew Katie but he did not kill her. He explained how the accident happened.
He said they went out for drinks and he had to drive her home because she had too much to drink and so could not drive herself home.
Even though he was not familiar with a stick shift, Kane said Katie insisted they drove her car. During the ride, an animal ran past the car which caused the crash, Kane was injured while Katie, unfortunately, died in the car crash.
Triple H argued Kane was not telling the whole truth, that Kane was deeply in love with Katie but the feeling wasn’t mutual.
Triple H added that Kane was also drinking too much which might have led to the crash, to provoke Kane more, Triple H added that the autopsy found Kane’s semen inside the deceased.
Triple H mentioned necrophilia as a possible option which made Kane leave the arena furiously.
The storyline became more controversial the following week when a tape was displayed of a mannequin in a casket was seduced by Triple H who was wearing a Kane mask. Later in the show, Triple H faced Kane in a tag team match, the episode ended with Triple H being stuffed in the trunk of a car by Kane.

The necrophilia storyline soon made the storyline very disturbing to fans. Despite the many complaints that were received, Triple H came to the ring with a mannequin of Katie insulting fans that felt offended.
The Hurricane came in and showed hospital footage with a person wearing a Triple H mask with a lot of objects removed from his butt.
Triple H got angry and attacked the mannequin and Kane finally came in and saved the show before Eric Bischoff announced a casket match as the main event.
During the match, Shawn Michaels hid in the casket and helped Kane win the match. This triggered a Triple H and Shawn Michaels feud.
It also ended up becoming one of the worst storylines WWE has ever had. It also resulted in one of the lowest points of the promotion.

The Aftermath of the Katie Vick Storyline
Bruce Prichard later shade more light on his podcast that McMahon wanted a more soap opera feel to their RAW and smackdown TV shows during that time and also more backstory to their characters.
WWE released a statement stating that the company was just trying to make Triple H an antagonizing character.
It was also stated that the original plan for the angle was to be more comical but McMahon wanted it to be more serious.
McMahon and Bruce did not agree on the angle so that led to a compromise of having both comical and serious parts.
After the funeral scene, McMahon still wanted to continue with the angle which was not well received.
Prichard said McMahon liked his ‘toilet humor’ that was why the angle continued. It was concluded on October 28, 2002, on another edition of Raw.
The Katie Vick angle did not favor Kane’s character despite being one of the most known stunts in wrestling history since he made his debut in 1997.
The storyline between Kane and Triple H finally ended on a sad note. in April 2021, it was announced that the Katie Vick storyline would be inducted into the WWE Hall of fame class of 2021.
