Franco Armani is a professional football player who plays as a goalkeeper for River Plate. Before then, he spent a long time with the Colombian side, Atletico Nacional. He also plays the same position for the Argentine national team.

Although he has been playing for a very long time, it was until 2018 that he got his first start for Argentina in a game against Nigeria.

Franco Armani Biography

Franco Armani was born on 16 October 1986 in Casilda, Santa Fe, Argentina. It was also there that he was brought up.

He started playing football at a young age and made his way through the Estudiantes youth system. As he progressed, he would later begin his professional career with the Argentine sports club Ferro Carril Oeste.

He played for the team from 2006 to 2008, making 45 appearances. From there, he moved to Deportivo Merlo where he would spend yet another two years in which he appeared in 39 games.

In 2010, he made his big move to Colombia where he played for the Colombian professional football team, Atlético Nacional.

Although things did not start well for him in the club, hence he always came from the bench, it didn’t take him too long to become the fan-favorite.  Before then he had to change his outlook on life and be more positive, which translated in the success he came to record.

In his eight years in Medellín, he became the most decorated player the team had ever had with 6 Categoría Primera A titles as well as 3 Copa Colombia, 2 Superliga Colombiana, and a Recopa Sudamericana. He made 135 appearances for the club in the domestic league.

His next move in 2017 was to back to his home country where he plays for the Argentine professional sports club, River Plate.

Since he made the move, he has appeared in more than 40 domestic league games and has won the Supercopa Argentina with the team in 2017 followed by the Copa Libertadores.

International Career

Although he was a great success in the various teams he has played for, he did not get to play for the Argentine national team until 2018 when he was already 31. In the build-up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, he got invited to wear the country’s colors in the biggest football tournament in the world.

His debut for the country came in the most crucial match against Nigeria in the last group stage match that would have seen Argentina out of the World Club.

However, standing in for Willy Caballero who was the first choice goalkeeper of the team, Franco Armani helped the team to make it beyond the group stages with a 2-1 win over the African side.

Unfortunately, he received his first defeat with the country in the Round of 16 of the tournament against the subsequent winners, France, who defeated them in a 4 -3 thriller.

Franco Armani is a married man. He got married to the beautiful Daniela Rendon whom he met in Colombia in 2016. They dated for a short while before they decided to become man and wife.

Daniela has a career as a model, something that she started a long time ago. In 2006, she was crowned Miss Sonrisa. Beyond just being a model Armani’s wife is also a lawyer.

In 2017 before making his debut for the Argentine national team, something that had always been his dream, he sought to get Colombian citizenship because of his wife and because he wanted to continue living in the country.

At the time, the goalkeeper was still eligible to play for Colombia and the country was also interested in having him with the senior team.
