Mateus Uribe is a professional international Columbian football midfielder who currently plays for the Mexican football club América and the Columbian national team.
Mateus is currently enjoying a flourishing career for both club and country. He was called upon as part of the Columbian Senior national side that participated in the last FIFA 2018 world cup in Russia. Mateus has played for several clubs in his career; such as Deportivo Espanol (2010/2011), Envigado (2012/2016), Deportes Nacional (2016/2017) and of recent América (2017- date).
Mateus Uribe Biography
Mateus Uribe was born Andrés Mateus Uribe Villa in Medellin, Columbia on 21, March 1991. However, details regarding his early childhood, family, and educational background have not yet been revealed. As per his racial background, he is Columbian by nationality.
The Columbian international midfielder first began his footballing career when he joined the Espanol under-19 team. He played for the club’s under-19 team until 2010 when he gained promotion to the club’s first team Deportivo Espanol. While in the club, Mateus made a total of 4 appearances and scored 2 goals before leaving in 2011.
Mateus continued his journey into football by moving to another side Envigado in 2012, where he featured in 87 games, scoring 7 goals in the process.
He again moved to Categoria Primera A side, Deportes Tolima in a loan deal where he spent a single season (2015/16). Mateus featured in 49 games, scoring a total of 9 goals for the club.
However, Atlético Nacional signed a contract with the Columbian international worth €5.05 million. So far, Mateus has featured in 21 league games and netted 7 times for the team.
Mateus Uribe has developed and established himself as a fine midfielder and as a result of that, he was called upon to come and play for the Columbian senior national team. His first international debut was in the 2017 international friendly game against Brazil which Columbia lost 1-0. Since 2017, he has featured for the senior national team only 5 times.
However, Mateus along with 3 other players were selected to play in the March 23rd, 2018 international friendly match with the French national team.
Finally, Mateus’ dedication and passion for his national team and the way and manner he has always responded and contributed to the team whenever he’s called upon, saw him getting selected as part of the final 23 man list that represented Columbia in the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia. Unfortunately, the Columbian side didn’t go beyond the round of 16 as they were eliminated by England. Although the game ended in a 1-1 all draw, they lost 3-4 in a penalty shoot out; and of course, Mateus’ penalty kick hit the crossbar.
Thus far, he has played in the country’s colors in 16 games and is yet to net in any goal. .
