Mac Hollowell was born on the 26^th of September 1998 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. His parents, Jen Sheldon and Len Hollowell are very supportive of him and his career and they even make it to his games.

He always had a love for the game as his playing dates way back to his childhood days. Mac grew up playing minor hockey in Niagara Falls before he graduated from the Junior B Niagara Falls Canucks.

2. Mac Hollowell Before Becoming An Overager

During his early days as a hockey player, Mac played a total of 38 games with the Niagara Rivermen Minor Midget hockey club. He started this journey with the club at the early age of 10. After quite an impressive performance with the club, he moved on to other clubs where he played for a while before his professional career kicked off.

Mac played a season of junior B hockey with the Niagara Falls Canucks. After this, he moved on to Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds after being drafted. From the Canucks, Hollowell then moved on to the Toronto Maple Leafs’s prospect camp. By 2018, he was drafted into the Toronto Maples Leafs’ 4^th round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

During this period, Mac Hollowell got an invitation to be part of the Toronto Marlies training camp. He also returned to the Greyhounds before the 2018/2019 season. It was during this point he was appointed to act as an alternate captain. He worked as he alternate captain with Jordan Sambrook and Morgan Frost.

Mac Hollowell began his professional career in 2019. He was signed to Maple Leafs. After his OHL career, he began to play for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

At the beginning of his professional career, Hollowell had to prove his worth in the club. By October 6^th of the same year, he scored his first goal against the Reading Royals. Mac also had his first AHL game on the 16^th of November 2019 and on the 24^th of November, he got reassigned to the ECHL.

4. Challenges Mac Hollowell Faced

27 Year old Mac Hollowell has not totally had a smooth journey in his career. Throughout his debut, he has had quite a number of downs as he has had the ups. In 2017, he was not drafted in the late-round pick despite having a great performance with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhound.

Also when he was at the prospect camp for the Toronto Maple Leafs, he sustained a leg injury while trying to block a shot. He also had to deal with his younger and not-as-great teammate being picked in the Leafs’ Round 1. Mac had to wait till the 4^th round before he got drafted despite being a better player. In addition to this, his young age almost proved a challenge to his professional dream. Thankfully, it didn’t and he is showcasing his talent and skill as a great player.

Rick Ferroni was Mac Hollowell’s coach way back when he was still a child player at the Niagara Falls Rivermen. Ferroni had always believed in Mac’s talent, skills, and abilities and he was not scared to vouch for him when the opportunity presented itself.

When Hollowell was dumped by his Triple-A team, it was Rick who went to appeal for his cause. Rick believed that although Mac wasn’t as built as other players, he had a resilience for the game of hockey that made him stand out.

Mac Hollowell, at age 20, was the leading Ontario Hockey League defenceman in terms of goals scored. As of the beginning of March 2019, Hollowell, still with The Sault Ste. Marie was leading the OHL defencemen. He had a total number of 23 goals and 72 points.

The Covid pandemic was rough on Mac Hollowell because he couldn’t play hockey nor go to the gym. However, it was also a good period because it was the period the call from Kyle Dubas, the manager of Maple Leafs to state that he had made it through.

The young Toronto Marlies player stands at a height of 5 feet, 10 inches (178 cm). He also weighs 77kg (170lb). According to Rick Ferroni’s description of the young lad, he has a ‘mop-top of red hair’.

Mac has a small body compared to other hockey players even on his team and this was almost posing a challenge for him, however, he wasn’t deterred. What he lacks in build, he makes up for in skills and passion.
