Dmitry Bivol’s Boxing Career
The Kyrgyz-born Russian boxer’s career journey is a remarkable one having fallen in love with the game at a tender age, and going on to win all his fights. His records at the amateur level were incredible after winning 2 world championships and a bronze medal at the under 17 levels and the 2008 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championship in the middleweight category, respectively. Moreover, he is a 2x Russian national amateur boxing champion in 2012 and 2014 in the lightweight category.
On 28th November 2014, he launched his career as a professional boxer with a win by TKO over Jorge Rodriguez Olivera in Luzhnik, Moscow. Two years later, he became the interim WBA light-heavyweight champion by beating the Dominican boxer by unanimous decision on 21st May 2016.
The following year, he defended his title twice. The first came in a fight against former New Zealand boxer Robert Berridge on 23rd February 2017. Afterward, he fought Samuel Clarkson on 14th April 2017.
He became a full WBA light-heavyweight champion after Nathan Cleverly and Andre Ward vacated their WBA titles. Therefore, he defended the title against Sullivan Barrera, Isaac Chilemba, and Joe Smith.
In 2019, Bivol was elevated to a full WBA (Super) light-heavyweight champion, 2 days later, he fought Gilbert Lenin Castilo. After 2 years, he defended the title against Craig Richards and Umar Salamov.
On 7th May 2022, he would defend the title against Mexican boxer and 4-division world champion, Canelo Alvarez. This is the 4th defense of his WBA (Super) title.
How Dmitry Bivol Makes His Money From Boxing
Bivol reportedly has a net worth of $1 million. He made the fortune from his boxing career. Even though, it is not clear whether all the money comes from boxing alone or from other sources as well. What remains a fact is that boxers earn from sponsorship deals and merchandise sales.
Since making his professional boxing debut in 2014, the WBA (Super) light-heavyweight champion has never lost a fight. All through these fights, he had received a percentage of the “fight purse” pooled by the promoters of such fights.
His net worth is expected to go up in the coming days. More so, he is reportedly earning $2 million from his fight with Canelo Alvarez.
As regards how he spends his money, it seems he is more prudent when it comes to spending. As of May 2022, there is nothing to indicate the kind of houses, cars, and other investments he has.
