Amel Majri is a French-based soccer player, who is of Tunisian ancestry. She gained widespread popularity as a left-back soccer player for the France women’s club Olympique Lyon and also a team member of the France senior national team.
She started playing international football in 2010 for Lyon with which she still remains before playing for the Under-20 Tunisian women’s team in 2012 and then in 2014, she switched allegiance to France and has since then, been playing for the French senior women’s team. She was born Amel Majri on January 25, 1993, in Monastir, Tunisia to her Tunisian parents whose information are not yet known to the media. She only spent a year in Tunisia before her family later relocated to France where they are currently based.
She was brought up by her mother whom she described as a woman of character while her father is absent in her life. However, she still managed to have a rather stable and peaceful childhood. She has a twin sister, Rachida who is the only sibling she has.
While growing up as a tomboy, her first love for football came when she was only 4. At the time, her uncle bought a balloon for her, and she wouldn’t stop playing with it. When she was 12, she got the chance to join AS Minguettes where she got the chance to start her youth career.
Soccer Career
In 2010, Amel Majri was signed to play for Olympique Lyonnais Feminine, a French women’s soccer club based in Lyon, it is the most successful club in the history of Division 1 Feminine with over 18 league cups in their history.
She earned her first cap in the 2010-11 Division 1 season, she only played 5 games during the season which is a total of 240 minutes on the pitch and only scored once during that time.
She played a total of 6 games in the Division 1 Feminine 2011-2012 season, scoring twice in both the French league and continental champions, and played a total of 9 games in the 2012-2013 season.
Because of her excellent ball control skills, she was among those selected to represent Tunisia in the Fifa under 20 world cup in 2012. She later went ahead to appear in various games for Lyon which includes playing 11 times in the 2013-14 season, 20 times in the 2014-15 season scoring 11 goals, 17 times in the 2015-16 season scoring 8 goals during the Division 1 Feminine league and UEFA women’s champions league competitions.
On May 7, 2014, Majri made her first appearance in the France women’s national soccer team when she played in a game against Hungary at the Stade Leo Lagrange, Besancon, France. The game ended 4-0 in the favor of France. Her other appearances under the France national women’s national soccer team includes, in a game against Ukraine at the Arena Lviv, Lviv, Ukraine in 2015, where they were defeated 3-0 by the Ukrainians and won against them in 2016 at Stade Nungesser, Valenciennes with a 4-0 victory.
She currently is among the 22 women France team in the ongoing going Fifa world cup in France.
