Gio Reyna is the son of former Manchester City and United States player, Claudio Reyna and his wife Danielle Egan, a former member of the United States women’s national soccer team. He currently has two siblings, Joah and Carolina. His older brother jack died of brain cancer at the age of 13.
The soccer player has Portuguese and Argentine ancestry. His paternal grandfather, Miguel Reyna was from Argentina and he also played soccer professionally. Gio Reyna who has been named to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, is the first US World Cup player who had both parents play for the national team.

1. Claudio Reyna Silva
Gio Reyna’s father, Claudio is a former soccer player as well as the current sporting director of Austin FC. Before he retired, the father of three served as the captain of the United States Men’s National team and is widely known as one of the greatest players the country ever had.
Gio’s father also played in the Bundesliga, the premier league, and also the Scottish premier league. He ended his playing career in 2008 as the captain of the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer.
Even after his retirement, he continued to work with the city football Group and became the technical director of New York City FC in 2013 until 2019.
Besides that, he is the founder of the Claudio Reyna Foundation, a non-profit organization named for providing soccer training and mentoring to underprivileged youth in the country.
Claudio Reyna was elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame on February 29, 2012. The 52-year-old has been dubbed as Captain America in Great Britain due to his role as captain of the U.S national team, a position his son might one day attain.
2. Danielle Egan Reyna
Gio Reyna’s mother, Danielle Egan is also a former soccer player. She has record of playing six times for the United States women’s national soccer team. Also, she played for North Carolina Tar Heels before she retired.
The former midfielder is of Irish descent. Her marriae with Claudio has produced four children including Gio.

1. Jack Reyna
Reyna’s older brother Jack was born in April 1999 around the same time his father was transferred to Rangers. While he was growing up, Jack was regarded as the unofficial team mascot always in the sideline during practice.
Jack played lots of sports but especially basketball and football. He was also interested in Arts. He once recited poetry in UK speaking competitions. He also loved geography and architechure. Although he did not play soccer, he memorized the names of famous stadiums.
Unfortunately, he died at the age of 13 on July 19 2012 after suffering from cancer. Prior to his death, Jack was diagnosed of stage IV glioblastoma, an extremely rare and aggressive condition which predominantly affects men in their 60s and 70s.
2. Joah-Mikel Reyna
Gio Reyna’s little brother Joah-Mikel was born on February 26, 2007 and he is currently 18 years old. Just like his older brother, Joah also plays soccer. In fact, he has been described as a better player than Gio, when he was his age. Nevertheless, the two brothers play alike.
He is a standout player for the NYCFC U13 and U14. While he was there, he scored 18 goals. He has been playing for Austin U15 since 2021.
3. Carolina Reyna
Gio Reyna’s only sister and the youngest in the family. She also plays several sports. There are strong indications that she loves cooking as well.

Gio Reyna’s grandfather, Miguel is orinally from Argentina but moved to the United states in 1968. His grandfather underwent the youth system of Independiente and even palyed professionaly with Los Andes before he settled in Springfield Township, New Jersey.
Gio Reyna comes from an athletic family and he is currently keeping the family’s legacy which he would later pass to his brother, Joah. Despite the tragedy that jit the family in 2012, his parents have remained together and have trained him and his siblings to support each other.
