Mark Magsayo was born Jessel Mark Araula Magsayo on June 22, 1995, in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Phillippine, and he is currently 30 years old. He grew up in a family that is not well to do financially, and they survive by earning less than $10 a day from a bakery job.
In 2003 when he was about 8 years old, he started boxing after watching a Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera fight. So, he started making $3 per bout as an amateur boxer to help supplement what his family makes.
Subsequently, he won the amateur boxing championship 4 different times, and by the time his amateur career closed, Magsayo had fought in about 200 bouts.
Magsayo’s Professional Boxing Career Began At 18
As his amateur career closed, he went pro at the age of 18 in 2013 and made his debut in a fight against Melton Sandal, which he won by a first-round knockout. Over the next two years, the Filipino maintained a winning streak of 10-0 and defeated Rafael Reyes to win the vacant IBF Youth featherweight title.
4 months before his 21st birthday in 2016, he won the Vacant WBO Youth featherweight title after facing Eduardo Montoya and winning the fight by unanimous decision. He went on to defend the title successfully against Chris Avalos in April 2016, Ramiro Robles in September 2016, Daniel Diaz in July 2017, and Shota Hayashi in November 2017.
