Stan Savran was an American media personality based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who died on June 12, 2023. His cause of death is not yet officially stated. However, several reports alleged that it could be linked to his several health issues. Although Stan is no more, he will be remembered as a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based media figure.

1. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, United States

Stan Savran was born in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Not much is known about his early life background. However, Stan previously said that his dad had season tickets and used to take him to games.

2. Stan Savran attended Miami University

Away from his family, Stan is known to have attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. This happens to be the same institution that popular sportsmen like Wally Szczerbiak and Mike Goldberg also attended.

3. He began his entertainment career in the 70s

When he began working on WWSW in 1976, Savran relocated to Pittsburgh. Three generations of Steel City sports fans have grown up listening to him in the roughly 50 years that have passed. Stan Savran and Guy Junker on Sportsbeat, the chat show he co-hosted with Junker on Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh, was Savran’s most well-known work up until his passing.

4. Savran was a very critical and experienced sports analyst

Savran was regarded as a very knowledgeable journalist. His ability to inject nuance into the discourse is a perspective not frequently heard in the world of sports talk. Fellow sportscaster, Randy Baumann had previously said that Savran’s work ethic is insane. According to Baumann, Savran never falls for the clichés of lazy sports analysis. Furthermore, he could be bitingly critical and frequent to comedic effect. Baumann also said Savran works harder than anyone he knows. His induction into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and into the Pittsburgh Pirates Media Wall of Fame are notable accomplishments.

5. He had a personal blog

Aside from working for mainstream media outfits, Stan Savran also had his own personal blog where he hosts a show tagged Savran On Sports. The blog has a collection of interview sessions held with different sports analysts.

6. Stan Savran revealed he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2022

Stan Savran officially revealed his lung cancer battle in 2022. According to reports, the sportscaster was diagnosed on January 18, 2022. Stan had said the experience had been rough for him but he was determined to continue doing what he loved to do.

7. Cancer runs in his family

Stan had said that cancer runs in his family. According to reports, his grandfather died of lung cancer and both of his parents died of cancer as well. More so, his younger sister had a double mastectomy. A mastectomy is a surgery to remove all breast tissue from a breast as a way to treat or prevent breast cancer.

8. Savran said he smoked cigarettes for 20 years

Though he gave up the habit in 1989, the late Savran had revealed that he smoked cigarettes for about 2 decades. It is not yet confirmed if his smoking habit contributed to his health challenges.

9. He imagined that he will be wearing a suit at his funeral

Stan Savran had sarcastically said that he would love to be wearing a suit at his funeral. As earlier mentioned, the sportscaster died on June 12, 2023, aged 76. prior to his death, he had numerous health issues which led to several heart procedures and the amputation of his right foot.

10. Stan Savran allegedly married multiple times

Not much is known about the entertainer’s personal life. However, it has been reported by pennlive.com that he had multiple marriages throughout his lifetime.
