As mentioned earlier, fleeing his country put a distance between him and his children, especially his son who was left behind after his wife and two daughters joined.

While this may sound like negligence, Romero has clarified that his children are his motivation. Prior to joining him in the States, he made sure he provided a better life for them in Cuba through his career earnings. Also, he revealed that his son understands why he left the country and they keep in touch through video calls.
