Maycee Barber is a 26-year-old American mixed martial artist with an extended UFC career. She competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and at a time became the youngest champion in UFC history.
While her career may be at the forefront of her public life, she has a supportive family that consists of her parents, Buckey Barber and Maryanne Barber; and 5 siblings, including Wyatt Barber who is also an MMA fighter and is signed to Bellator.
Maycee’s Bio, Parents, and Siblings
Maycee Barber was born on May 18 1998 in Greeley, Colorado, United States. She was born as the second of 6 children of her parents, Buckey Barber (father) and Maryanne Barber (mother).
Her siblings include an older sister, Emma Barber, and a younger brother Wyatt Barber who is also an MMA fighter.
Maycee and her siblings were all exposed to fighting at a young age by their parents. In fact, Maycee started karate at 3 and by 13, she was already teaching even adults.
Part of Maycee and her siblings’ exposure to fighting was a result of the family’s mixed martial arts academy. Regardless of this, Buckey and Maryanne Barber were skeptical about their children getting involved in professional fighting.
Yet, when Maycee finally did, the couple became supportive. In fact, they traveled to different parts of the country over and time again to get her coached by some of the best coaches in America.
The enthusiasm of her parents is one thing that has helped Maycee’s career. Based on reports, her father did not mind putting his all into her training, this includes moving and giving up the family’s business if it would take that.
Her Education and Career Journey
Maycee was homeschooled alongside her siblings. However, she later went to Adams State University and later transferred to The Citadel Military College of South Carolina. She studied health services administration.
Despite her being a fighter early in life, Barber made her professional fighting debut on June 23, 2017. She won the fight against Itzel Esquivel in submission.
This led to 7 series of wins until she faced a loss in a fight with Roxanne Modafferi on January 18, 2020. Again, she lost in another unanimous decision in a fight against Alexa Modafferi on February 13, 2021.
Afterward, she won four straight fights in split and unanimous decisions.
So far, her dream is to reach or even surpass either former two-division champion Conor McGregor or ex-UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who are the biggest attractions in the sport’s history.
