2. Park Jun-Yong Started his MMA Career in 2013
Park became a professional martial artist 11 years ago. He made his debut in the Top Fighting Championship on December 8, 2013, but lost to Jae Young Kim by decision at 5:00 of Round 2.
Consequently, he left the ring for over a year before returning. He has not disclosed what prompted his decision however, he has since returned to the ring and is making the most out of his career.
3. He Made His UFC Debut 6 Years After He Became a Pro
The South Korean MMA fighter joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2019 and debuted during the UFC Fight Night: Andrade vs. Zhang. He competed against the American MMA fighter Anthony Hernandez but lost by anaconda choke.
After that, he faced Marc-Andre Barriault at the UFC Fight Night 165 and won the fight via unanimous decision. Since then, he has fought against the likes of John Philip, Tafon Nchukwi, Gregory Rodrigues, and Eryk Anders.
4. Park Jun-Yong Changed his Nickname after Joining the UFC
When Park Jun-Yong became a pro, he was known as “The Ninja Turtle”. However, when he joined the UFC, he changed his name to “The Iron Turtle” which was suggested by his translator. According to him, his nickname is a blend of Korean culture and history. He explained that Korea’s first iron-clad warship was called the turtle ship.
