Averion Hurts is many things to many people but to his 27-year-old NFL quarterback, Jalen, he is a father, one-time coach, and a huge fan. His athletic background gave him a great insight into Jalen’s career.

Averion was a track athlete who also played football at Channelview High School back in the 1980s. Upon graduation, he started a career in education and worked as an Adaptive Behavior teacher in Pasadena University School District.

2 years later, still with a keen interest in sports, Averion started his coaching career at MacArthur High School, Aldine Independent School District. Since then, he has moved to other schools and served as a football coach in them.

Aside from Jalen Hurts, Averion has 2 other athletic children from his marriage to Pamela. These other children are – an older son named after him, and the youngest child, a daughter named Kynnedy.

Averion Hurts had a Sporting Scholarship to Study at Howard Payne University

Back in 1986, Averion Hurts was a fresh High School graduate who, during his high schooling days, played football and ran track. He was a very good athlete, so much so that he earned himself a scholarship.

Jalen’s father got a football and track scholarship to attend Howard Payne University upon graduating from high school. His education and career went smoothly and he graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.

According to his bio, Hurts is a 6-time All-American track and field athlete. He was also an All-conference senior offensive lineman.

Unfortunately for him, he suffered a knee injury that prevented a professional career in any sport from progressing.

He Started a Career in Elementary Education

Due to the injury that prevented Jalen’s father from continuing with sports, he found another passion in education.

In 1994, Averion Hurts began a career in teaching. He started off at Pasadena Independent School District located at Parkview Intermediate. There, he taught in a unit known as Adaptive Behavior.

Even as he taught, Averion still deeply had a connection to sports that never went away. Somehow, he managed to find his way back, combining his new-found career with his love for sports.

He Coached his Son in Football

Hurts, the former college football star moved to MacArthur High School located in Aldine Independent School District. There, he served as a coach and spent 6 years there as a Second Assistant Coach.

When he left MacArthur, he moved to Baytown Lee High School in 2015, where he served as the Defensive Coordinator for 4 years.

By 2006, Averion Hurts returned to his alma mater, Channelview High School, and became the Head Coach of the football team there. He remained there, coaching the team for many years and through the team’s seasons.

Averion’s wife is an educationist just like him. She read Business Administrator and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in that field. She however furthered her education by getting a Master’s degree in Counseling.

Like her husband, she also worked in the Channelview District in Texas. As an educationist, she taught as a Math Special Education teacher for grades 6-8 at Anthony Aguirre Junior High. She also served as the Special Service Department Chair.

Pamela’s marriage to Averion has lasted since the 1990s. Not much is known about if she still teaches but we do know that she is a very integral part of her husband and son, Jalen’s life. Over the years, she has poured in support for her son and continues to do so.

Pamela has 3 children with her husband and they are all athletic in different fields. The first of the kids is known as Averion Hurts Jr. He was born on August 18, 1994, and was a starting quarterback when he attended college at Texas Southern University.

He is now a football coach and quarterback developer at Summer Creek High School. Averion Jr. Pamela’s oldest child also worked at the University of Alabama.

The young man is also married but doesn’t seem to have any kids yet.

Jalen, the most famous of the children, and NFL quarterback, is the second of the Hurts family. He was born on August 7, 1998, and plays professional football for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The youngest Hurts child is Kynnedy and she was born in the early 2000s. She and her brothers share a close bond so much so that Jalen even saved up $70,000 in preparation for her college tuition.

Kynnedy also attended Channelview High School and was on the Lady Falcon Varsity Volleyball team. While her brothers took to Football, Kynnedy focused on Volleyball and so put in as much effort into the sport as her brothers did.

These 3 children were born from Averion and Pamela’s union over 2 decades ago.

Jalen Hurts, the second and most famous of the Hurts family members is an NFL starting quarterback football player, as already severally stated.

He started his career way back in his High School days at Channelview High School. He, his older brother, and his father attended this high school.

At the time he studied in Channelview, Jalen’s father served as the football coach there and so coached his son in the sport. In fact, throughout his high schooling, Jalen was under the coaching expertise of his father, Averion Hurts.

When he was done with High School, the young man went on to attend the University of Alabama. He was quickly recruited into the football team of the University, by Coach Bo Davis and Lane Kiffin, the offensive coordinator.

From 2016, he played college football and made a great impact on his team and their games. In 2019, he transferred from the University of Alabama to the University of Oklahoma. There, he had his final year of eligibility and continued his college career as a football player there.

The next year, Jalen, a fresh college graduate, started his professional career as the 53rd overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He then joined the Philadelphia Eagles where he has remained till date.

While Averion Hurts sons made their marks in their respective schools during their high school and college days, he and his wife made it a duty to attend their games.

They would even divide themselves for periods when their son’s games coincide. One parent would attend one son’s game and the other parent would go for the child’s game.
