Over the years, Abraham Nova has built a successful boxing career that has made him a favorite of sports aficionados. Through this, the Puerto Rican-born has made his name name global making many curious to know more about him.
The 31-year-old started his career at a young and is now one of the most fearsome contenders to meet in the ring. He has won over 20 fights and held titles like the WBA-NABA super featherweight for over five years.
He was born and Raised In a Pastors Household
Abraham Nova was born on January 14, 1994, in Puerto Rico to parents of Dominican origin. However, he did not grow up there as his parents moved to the US when he was still little. Notably, both of his parents are pastors and he is the youngest of ten siblings
In fact, his move to the US was because of church work after his father was assigned to lead a church in the US. The family settled in a two-bedroom flat in Albany, New York where Nova and his nine older siblings grew up.
During his childhood, it was not unusual for him and his siblings to help in their parent’s work, and would often drive to make donations of food, clothes, and toys.
Abraham Nova Started Boxing at the Age of 12
Despite coming from a large household of parents who were into ministry work, Abraham had his own dreams. At some point, he dreamt of being a pilot or police officer. However, all this changed when he discovered boxing.
Apparently, he had accompanied some children to a local gym in Albany during which he received a good thrashing when he stepped into the ring. This ignited a deep need for revenge
The highlight of this period was when he took his passion seriously and started fighting at the age of 12. As an amateur, he was quite unbeaten and this explains his record of 167-11-60 KOs.
Notably, he participated in the 2014 U.S. Nationals and earned the number 1 ranking. By 2016, he finished third at the U.S Olympic qualifiers.
The Albany-raised made his Professional Debut at the Age of 22
With a stellar record in his amateur years, it was clear that Abraham had great prospects. According to him, he intends to be the next champion from Puerto Rico following the retirement of Miguel Cott in 2017.
Unsurprisingly, promotions like Top ranking soon came calling and at the age of 22 on April 292016, Nova made his professional debut.
During the match, the Albany-raised fighter faced off with Weusi Johnson and won via a TKO. This set the pace for his other matches and by 2018, he had put in a record of 12-0, 8 of which he won via KOs.
Notably, he won his first title on November 18, 2018, against Sulaiman Segawa via unanimous Decision. Since then, he has faced other boxers including Brian Pelaez, Luis Castillo, and Pedro Navarrete.

Nova Suffered his First Professional Defeat at the Age of 28
After years of maintaining a winning streak, this was broken by Robeisy Ramirez on June 18, 2022. At the time, he was 28 years old but did not allow this setback to push him away from pursuing his dreams.
In fact, he pushed hard and won his next match against Adam Lopez via Unanimous Decision. He also won his next two matches against Jonatan Romero on July 28, 2023, This makes it clear that the super featherweight champion is worth all the praise he is getting.
At the rate he is going, he is likely going to set another winning streak.
Is the Boxing Champion Married?
For a man who has honed skills as a fighter, we are curious to know whether he is also a married man. As it is, he has managed to keep this area of his life away from the public eye.
Based on his social media updates, we may not be wrong to assume he is not married as he only shares updates of things regarding his career. As of this writing, his most recent update is his fight with O’Shaquie Foster slated for February 16, 2024.
