Rumeal Robinson Biography

This basketball player was born Rumeal James Robinson on the 13th of November in Mandeville, Jamaica, but all of his childhood was spent in the United States where he was moved to when he was still a child.

For his high school education, Rumeal Robinson attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, also known as CLRS located at Cambridge, Massachusetts. This was where his affinity for the game began and as a member of the school’s team where he played the position of the point guard, he helped in leading them to the 1986 state championships.

As a teenager, Robinson showed great work ethic and in the mornings, he would train extensively all in a bid to get better at his game. This was a trait he maintained even as an adult.

The Beginning of His Career

Robinson’s success with his team put him on the map and he was given a spot at the University of Michigan to play on the university’s team. The height of his college career was in his Junior year. During a game sometime in 1989, he was able to deliver two free throws in the three seconds that was left on the timer.

When he was done at the University of Michigan, he joined the 1990 draft and was the 10th pick in the first round of the draft. The Atlanta Hawks picked him and he signed a four-year deal with the team. But as fate would have it, he only spent two years with the Hawks before moving to New Jersey to join the New Jersey Nets.

In his ten-year career, Rumeal Robinson played in more than ten teams, but he never spent more than two years with any team.

Rumeal Robinson’s Family (Mother)

As a child, Rumeal Robinson’s birth mother whose name is not known abandoned him with her parents, but by the time he was ten, he was sent back to Jamaica so that he could reconnect with his mother. But she made it clear that she did not want to have a relationship with him. When he returned to America, he was taken in by the couple Helen and Lou Ford. The Fords ran a foster home service and were willing to take him in. He grew up with the other foster kids who lived with the Fords.

Although Rumeal’s birth mother is not known, his foster mother, Helen Ford, is considered as his mother as she adopted him as her own son. But in the course of his life, they had a fall-out.

Robinson had plans to develop real estate in Jamaica but because of the reckless life he lived as a basketball player who ran through his funds without making any real savings, he had no money to fulfill this desire. He petitioned Helen to get a second mortgage on her house, which he used as collateral for some loans. The loans he got were not paid back and he spent the money on things other than the development of his real estate. Ford’s house was repossessed by the bank but she was able to get her house back in 2013. For his actions, Rumeal Robinson went to prison for five years between 2011 and 2016.

What Is His Net Worth Now?

As a result of his fraudulent activities and lavish lifestyle, Rumeal Robinson has no significant amount of money to his name. As all the money he had went into paying back his loan, including his pension fund, Robinson is estimated to have a net worth of only $100,000.
