Rodolfo Zelaya whose full name is Rodolfo Antonio Zelaya García, was born in Usulután, the largest city in El Salvador. He was born on July 3, 1988, and grew up with his family at Usulután. Details about his parents’ identities and that of his siblings remain quite vague at the moment.
According to reports, since his childhood days, the footballer had been very passionate about sports especially soccer and decided to chase his dreams of becoming a professional football star.
Rodolfo Zelaya Professional Football Career
In his youth days, Rodolfo started his youth career with CD Alacrán in 2001 before advancing to club level. His professional football club encounter started with San Rafael in 2004 and during his one-year playtime with San Rafael, he was able to prove his exceptional skills, winning some admiration from fans.
Later in 2005, Rodolfo joined the club Intipucá where he played in the Segunda División, and in his two years playtime with the club, he was able to net 19 goals for the team in 31 appearances. Having won the heart of the Chalatenango coach Vladan Vićević, in 2008, Rodolfo signed with Chalatenango where he played in the Primera Division. While he was with the club, Rodolfo captured the attention of fans as well as reporters with his striking prowess, and he scored 8 goals in the 17 games he featured in for the team, helping the club to place fifth at the end of the Clausura 2008 season.
Alianza became Rodolfo’s next destination after leaving Chalantenango. His move came as the result of the club switch of the former president of Chalantenango. He joined the Alianza team in 2008, and between that year to 2009, he made 29 appearances with 18 goals with the club.
Again in 2009, Rodolfo went into a three-year contract with the Mexican side, León along with two other El Salvadoran players. While with Leon, Rodolfo appeared in 10 games with a lone goal to his own. However, he abruptly returned to his former team Alianza in 2011 where he stayed until 2018.
In this his second coming to Alianza, Rodolfo made 227 appearances while scoring a whopping 112 goals. He helped to bring the club to the top of the table as he became very instrumental in helping the team to win four Primera División titles which were: Clausura in 2011, Apertura in 2015, alongside the Apertura of 2017, in addition to Clausura 2018.
In 2019 that Rodolfo signed a pack with the Los Angeles FC where he still plays up to this moment.
International Career
On the other hand, a quick glance into his international performances revealed that Rodolfo got his first international cap in April 2008 and since then, he has become a regular face in the El Salvador national team. So far, he has made 45 appearances for the team and has scored as much as 21 goals for the national team.
In his national team encounter, Rodolfo outshone all his El Salvadoran teammates as he bagged several individual awards as the best player at the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, as well as being recognized by goal.com as one of the Best XI of that tournament.
