Kluivert called time on his professional football career in 2008 when he was released by Belgium club, Lille.
He began his transition to coaching in 2008 when he decided to take coaching courses offered by the Dutch Football Association. He joined the backroom coaching staff of club AZ in 2008, before joining the Australian side, Brisbane Roar FC.
In May 2010, he joined the football club, N.E.C as an assistant coach before switching to FC Twente as a coach for their youth and reserve teams. He joined the Curacao National Men team in 2015 as head coach.
In 2016, he joined the French club side, Paris Saint-Germain as Director of Football, before moving to FC Barcelona in 2019. As of 2021, he is serving as the interim coach for Curacao.
