Keanan Bennetts is one of the brightest young talents in the world of football. He is referred to as the most recent diamond in Borussia Monchengladbach’s jewelry box. The English wonder-kid is skillful and full of energy when it comes to dribbling with the ball and superb tactics when whipping crosses into the box and can give a deadly shot from a far range. It has been observed that he plays a bit like the former Tottenham player, Gareth Bale.
The English footballer mainly plays forward for Borussia Monchengladbach but can play a variety of defending positions. He also played for the England U19 team, having previously played for the lower teams.
Who is Keanan Bennetts?
The football star was born Keanan Chidozie Bennetts on March 9, 1999, in Edgware, Greater London to a Nigerian father and a German mother from Hamburg. He was raised in North London together with a brother, Jayden.
Keanan Bennetts started his youth career with Tottenham Hotspur in 2003. He remained with the youth team until 2018. In October 2017, he played for the senior team when Tottenham took on an AFC Wimbledon side full of first-timers in EFL Trophy. He helped set up two goals and had a strong defense technique which made it difficult for the hosts to penetrate. He had nine goals and five assists for Tottenham Hotspur’s U-23 during the 2017/18 season.
On 1st July 2018, Bennetts joined Borussia Monchengladbach from the Spur Academy, having failed to make it to the senior team. In June 2020, he made his professional debut for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga as a substitute in the 90th minute for Lars Stindi in a 3-0 win home match against Vft Wolfsburg.
He signed a four-year deal valued at 2 million Euros. His contract with the German side would expire on June 30, 2022.
Is he the next Gareth Bale?
There has been speculation that keanan Bennetts got his inspiration in regard to his style of play, from the Welsh player, Gareth Bale even though they were never paired together in England.
He was not compared to Bale because they were both Spurs players, but also because of their manners of playing. Both players, standing at 6 feet plus, can play forward and wings. Although he is not as pacy as Bale, Bennets has his tremendous dribbling skills and general playing style.
The London-born talent is mainly a one-footed player who is often seen on the left-wing using his dribbling skills and speed. He can play from the right cutting inside onto his left-foot or even in the middle. He is said to have basic skills required for the game and a really good pace, energy, strength, and ability to beat an opponent aiming at the goal and also making a highly calculative and well-executed pass.
There were points in his early career when he was playing in England that some pundits both acknowledged that he got his inspiration from the Welsh playmaker and that he might even come to surpass him in skills. With his move to Germany, it is left to see if he will be yet another Gareth Bale, a better version, or even one that will not live to the promise.
Keanan Bennetts has a brother who also plays
His brother, Jayden Bennetts played for Watford when he signed for a one year contract at the end of his scholarship in May 2019. The younger Bennetts was released from Watford in June 2020. Jayden agreed to play for Nigeria and even trained with the nation’s squad in Abuja. However, he is still yet to a call or start.
