Charley Esmee Hull is an English golfer who is widely regarded to be among the best female golf players in England.

She has become a sensation in the UK after managing to achieve quite a lot of success both on the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour.

She was so good that she became a champion on the European Circuit even before the age of 18.

More so, she became the youngest person ever to take part in the Solheim Cup matches.

Charley Hull Biography

It was to Dave and Basienka Hull that Charley Hull was born on 20 March 1998. While her father is English, her mother is Polish.

She was born in Kettering, United Kingdom, a place she fondly calls home. The golfer grew up in Kettering with her family and it was this same place she honed her stunning skills in golf playing.

Her father, Dave Hull was a plasterer who is now retired. The man is credited to have played a very big role in steering Hull in the right direction when she found her passion for golf.

Although Dave did not introduce the girl to golf, he felt it was his duty to help his daughter succeed in what she loved doing.

With also some interest in golf, Dave played the game with his daughter when she was still little.

Charley’s mother, Basienka Hull is one of the strong influences in her life whose competitive spirit she emulated.

In fact, Basienka was a county-level tennis player. So the love for sports is something that runs in the family.

Talking about her childhood and how it all began, Charley explained that she developed an interest in golf at about the age of 2 when she first picked up a club, and she began to play with a young neighbor at age 4.

She also played with her dad at the Kettering Golf Club.

Charley Hull Education

Charley Hull developed a lot of interest in golf from an early age and was so consumed by it that her parents had to withdraw her from school when she was 13.

At the time she was already gaining a lot of attention for activities and winnings on the golf course. After she was withdrawn, Charley was then home-schooled by her mother and father from the age of 13 so that she would be able to practice golf more easily.

It is no surprise that Charley Hull’s parents decided to home-school her because the young girl was no more concentrating at school.

All she wanted to do was play and practice golf. Hull once confessed that when she was a little girl, all she thought of was golf 24/7.

Her life was always just about golf. She dreamed about it, wanted it, and played it.

It is noteworthy that even though she was consumed by the desire to play golf, Charley was not withdrawn from her friends.

She recalls that once her friends had come back from school, she would go to their homes and visit sometimes, thus balancing her life.

Charley Hull Amateur Career

Charley Hull came to public attention at the age of 9 when she won a significant 18-hole handicap event.

The interesting thing is that she played against adults and still won with a score of 28 Stableford points from a handicap of 26. Her fame began to grow in her local community.

When she turned 10, Charley took part in the British Open Pro-Am and played alongside Morgan Pressel, a famous American golf player.

She went on to win many different amateur events both in America and the UK.

In 2012, the young golfer played on Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup team. She won her singles match on the final day of the tournament even though she lost her fourballs and foursomes matches on the first two days.

Great Britain would eventually beat the United States 10½–9½.

Her Professional Career

Charley Hull turned into a professional golfer in 2013 and eventually made her debut in March that year at the Ladies European Tour managing to secure an astonishing five consecutive second-place finishes at the Lalla Meryem Cup, South African Women’s Open, Turkish Airlines Ladies Open, and Deloitte Ladies Open and UniCredit Ladies German Open. She had lost a playoff at the UniCredit Ladies German Open.

In addition to the second-place finishes at the five events, Charley went on to secure another top-10 finish on the Ladies European Tour, a feat that gained her some instant recognition as a newcomer.

When the tour finished, she finished as number six on the order of merit.

2013 was a great year for Charley Hull. Because of the way she made her strong debut on tour, she was rewarded with the 2013 LET Rookie of the Year award.

She was also voted as the Best International Newcomer by the Sports Journalists’ Association. Her accolades did not stop there; Charley also received the Peter Wilson Trophy at the SJA British Sports Awards.

At the age of 17, Hull took part in the 2013 Solheim Cup after she got selected to compete in the tournament by the European Solheim Cup captain Liselotte Neumann in August that year. With her section, Charley became the youngest person ever to play in the tournament.

The European team, with Charley, fully involved, went on to win the tournament. It was the first time a European team would win the Solheim tournament on U.S. soil.

Charley contributed 2 points to the team which eventually emerged with a final score of 18-10.  Charley also had a 5&4 singles win at the tournament.

After the tournament, her performance was widely praised.

Highly powered by her achievements from 2013, Charley proceeded into 2014 with high expectations. In 2014, Charley took part in the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco where she won her first professional title on the 16th of March.

Charley’s title win was quite dramatic. She actually came from behind to secure a firm victory over Gwladys Nocera, a popular French professional golfer.

The young woman has continued to win fans over to herself with stunning performances including her dazzling show at the 2018 LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship where she came second.

She has also put up a show at the 2018 TOTO Japan Classic as well as the CME Group Tour Championship.

On the 12th of January 2019, Hull emerged as the winner of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi.

In June 2020, she won the opening event of the Rose Ladies Series in the United Kingdom and then proceeded to finish second in the final event to top the series standings ahead of Georgia Hall in early August.

In September, she tested positive for COVID-19 during pre-tournament testing for the ANA Inspiration and was forced to withdraw from the year’s second major.

However, in October, she finished in a tie for 7th place in the Women’s PGA Championship.

Being a top-flight player of golf, Charley Hull has reportedly earned nearly $4,067,367 million so far in tour winnings. This is according to the official stat published by LGPA.
