Allie Long is a soccer player who plays as a midfielder for the United States women’s national soccer team as well as Reign Football club under the National Women Soccer League.
Allie Long Early Life, Biography
Allie was born on August 13, 1987, in Huntington, New York bearing the name Alexandra Linsley Long to James and Babara Long. She was raised in the company of her brother Patrick.
She had her high school education at Northport High School from where she graduated in 2005. While there, she was one of the key players instrumental to the undefeated form of her Northport football team.
She was named the Newsday’s Player of the Year as well as the Suffolk County Player of the Year. She also featured in the All-State and All-Country first-team consecutively for four years.
Next, Allie gained admission into the Pennsylvania State University in 2005. There, she continued to play soccer and was in the permanent line-up of the college team.
Subsequently, Allie transferred to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 2007. As expected, she joined the football team of the University where she left a good record for herself.
Allie Long Professional Soccer Career
Allie Long began her professional soccer career during the 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer Drafting after she was signed by the Washington Freedom. She made her debut for the team on the 29th of March 2009, featuring against the Los Angeles Sol.
By 2010, she became a free agent before signing a contract with the Sky Blue FC. In her first week, she got named the WPS Player of the Week.
After that season, Allie joined the famous French club Paris Saint Germain under the Division 1 Féminine in 2011. She made her debut for the French club on October 16, 2011, in a match against the FF Yzeure Allier Auvergne. Her stay in the club was cut short by January 2012 following the abrupt suspension of the 2012 WPS seasons due to financial and legal constraints.
After this, she joined the New York Fury, in 2012 who was playing in the Women’s Premier Soccer League Elite.
From the New York Fury, she moved to the Portland Thorns FC in the National Women’s Soccer League for the 2013 season. She took an off-season loan to Chelsea Ladies.
Allie joined Reign FC for which she currently plays in 2018.
International Career
Looking into Allie’s international career, she played for the US under-20 and under-23 national teams before being called to join the major US national team in 2010. She was also in the U.S. national team at the 2016 Olympics, featuring in three of the team’s four matches.
Long was also absorbed into the final line up of the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship. Subsequently, in May 2019, she was named into the final roster for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be her first senior World Cup appearance.
The US team ended up winning the tournament in France.
