US Figure Skater Alysa Liu at 16 has announced her retirement from the game in order to spend time with family and study. Alysa revealed this on Saturday the 9th of April via her Instagram handle.
The two-time National champion said she feels so much satisfied with her skating career and never knew she would be able to accomplish as much as she did in the first place.
Liu after shocking her followers and fans with the breaking news said she actually started skating at the age of 5 and has so far spent 11 years on the ice where she had a lot of good and bad memories she will cherish for the rest of her life.
Alysa notably clinched her first national title in the year 2019. Liu who was 13 years old back then used the triple axel which only a few US women were able to land successfully with. She also repeated the stunt the proceeding year to prove it was not a fluke.
She has made up her mind to hang the skate despite being the 2022 world bronze medalist, the 2021 CS Nebelhon Trophy champion, and a two-time U.S national champion. She also participated in the 2022 winter Olympics where she was placed at number 7.

Born on the 8th of August 2005, 19 years old Alysa Liu has within a very short while written her name on the sands of time.
Her record as the youngest ever U.S women’s national champion is linked to winning her first title at the age of 13. She was also the youngest at age 14 to win two consecutive titles after Ashley Wagner did the same in 2012 and 1013. Moreso, Liu is the first woman on record to win the junior and senior titles back to back after Mirai Nagasu achieved the same in 2008.
Aside from Liu’s triple axel record, she also became the first American woman to land a quadruple jump and also the first woman to compete in both a quad and triple Axel in the same program. While most of her fans were taken by surprise, she received torrents of congratulatory messages and goodwill for the life she desires ahead.

The decision of the skating superstar to quit may have been driven by compassion and the responsibility of being the oldest of 5 siblings. Liu’s broken family consists of a set of triplets (Joshua, Justin, and Julia). She has another younger sister by the name of Selina who used to skate but stopped because she lost her first competition.
The 19 years old was conceived through an anonymous egg donor and a surrogate mother. She however grew to refer to Mary Qingxin and Arthur Liu who took her legal custody as parents even though the couple is now divorced.
Still, about Alysa’s family, it was reported in 2021 that the skating star and her father Arthur were being preyed on by the Chinese government. Her father had initially left China as a political refugee sequel to the Tiananmen Square pro-democracy protest in 1983.
Arthur believes the Chinese operation is just a ploy to silence and intimidate him from relaying human rights violations in China. He said he is more concerned about his daughter’s safety than himself.
