1. Sanchez Hails From Guantanamo, Cuba

Frank Sanchez Faure was born on July 18, 1992, in Guantanamo, Cuba. He is now 33 years old, but he doesn’t reveal much about his family history. All we know is that he has an older brother who inspired him to start boxing.

Regarding his parents and how many siblings he has, there is no information on them.

2. He Started Boxing At The Age Of 9

Frank Sanchez was mesmerized by boxing since he was a little boy. He would sit in front of the TV and watch the legendary Cuban amateur boxers Teofilo Stevenson and Felix Savon knock out their opponents. He dreamed of becoming like them one day. He started boxing at the age of 9 and followed his older brother to the gym.

His older brother was his mentor and protector, but he had to quit boxing later because of his health problems. Frank was devastated, but he vowed to continue his brother’s legacy and pursue his own glory.

3. The Cuban Has An Incredible Amateur Boxing Record

Sanchez competed as an amateur from 2008 to 2016. He won several national and regional titles, including the Cuban Junior Championships in 2008 and 2009. He fought in the middleweight division (75 kg) and participated in the World Youth Championships in 2010 and the Pan American Games in 2011, where he won a bronze medal. He had a record of 214 wins and six losses as an amateur, with one knockout win. He faced some notable opponents, such as Erislandy Savon, Carlos Gongora, and Bektemir Melikuziev.

4. He Turned Pro In 2017 After Failing To Make The 2016 Olympic Cut

As you already know Sanchez had a record of 214 wins and six losses at the amateur level. However, he faced many difficulties and limitations in Cuba, such as lack of resources, and low recognition. He also failed to make the Cuban Olympic team for the 2016 Rio Games, which was his dream. Therefore, he decided to leave Cuba and turn pro in 2017.

The Cuban boxer moved to Mexico and then to the United States, where he found better opportunities, coaches, and exposure. He also improved his power and knockout ability, which he lacked as an amateur.
