He started his footballing journey with the Hutchison Vale youth team before he joined Tynecastle Boys Club and then Celtic Boys Club. In 1995, he joined the Manchester United youth team and he remained there until 2003 when he started his professional career with the same team.
His senior career with the Red Devils lasted until 2015 when he moved to West Bromwich Albion. 91 games and 4 goals later, he moved to Stoke City in 2017 and remained there until he retired in 2019.
As regards his international career, Fletcher played for the Under 20 Scotland team in 2002, and in the same year, he got to play for the country’s Under-21 team until 2003 when he was called to play for the Scotland B team. Fortunately for him, he also got to play for the country’s senior team in the same year and he continued until 2017 when he ended his international career.
