Hayley Emma Raso was born on 5 September 1994. She grew up with two older brothers, Jordan and Lachlan in the Gold coast. Their mother, Renaye worked three jobs to raise her children. She is currently 30 years old

Her brother Jordan has an intellectual disability. Lachlan suffered from a congenital disease from childhood. Lachlan is a civil engineer who also plays indoor soccer. Hayley is an ambassador for Heartkids and it reminds her of her brother’s heart condition. Hayley has a tattoo on her teeth that says ‘don’t look back’. This describes her strength through the challenges she has faced.

1.Hayley Football Career

Though Hayley started her senior career with the Matildas in 2011. She had played for the Under-20 National team also called the Young Matildas.

Hayley signed with Canberra United and was part of the side that won the 2011-2012 W-League. She trained at the Queensland academy Sport but didn’t get a scholarship. It made way for the impressive trial that made her sign to Canberra United.

She remained with the club and scored her first senior goal against the New Castle Jets in the next season. Canberra United lost in the third-place play-off to NTV Beleza. Hayley scored the second goal.

She moved to Brisbane Roar in 2013. Her debut match was against her former team. Brisbane lost the game to United in a 3-0 win. In a 4-1 victory, Hayley netted the second goal for Brisbane Roar.

Hayley shifted sides and played for the Washington spirits in 2015 after the FIFA Women’s World cup. The Spirits kept her aside in 2016.

Between 2016-2019, she signed to Portland Thorns FC. She fielded goals for the Thorns in a productive period for the club.

2.From Loans To Everton FC

Between 2016-2019, Hayley played on loan for Canberra United. She also played for Brisbane Roar in two successive seasons.

In 2020, she transferred to Everton in the FA Women’s Super League. The career shift to Everton is a record of her hard work.

3.Why Did Hayley Wait 7 Months To Play Her Debut For The Club?

Her debut match for Everton came 7 months after joining the club. She was the third Australian to sign to the Women’s Super League. Within the 7 months Hayley was not playing, other Australians joined to make them 11.

She waited seven months to play her debut match due to a broken nose that needed surgery. Her debut match for the club ended in a 4-0 win to Bristol City.

4.She Had A Career Threatening Injury In 2018

Hayley had a partial tear to her ligament. She missed many games in the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup. When she returned within the season, she scored two goals out of the twelve games she played.

The collision with Washington Spirits goalkeeper, Aubrey Bledsoe placed Hayley on an injury. It was a career-threatening injury in 2018.

Hayley’s injury took her out for six months. She had to learn how to work again. It was a hard time for her thinking that she may not play again. Her return was grand, she scored for the Matilda’s against New Zealand in March of 2019.

5.Hayley’s Brother Had A Heart Surgery

While recovering from her back injury, Hayley made it known that her brother is a source of strength. He had undergone open-heart surgery and came out stronger. Her brother had been born with a heart defect.

His strength made her determined to be strong despite the injury.

6.She May Be A Paramedic One Day

While the star footballer is always improving herself, on and off the field. Hayley is training to be a paramedic one day. For now, she is focusing on being a great footballer by sticking to it.

She made her Senior International debut at the age of 17 and won the W-League title while at Canberra United.

In 2017, she won the Supporters Player of the year while playing for the Portland thorns. She didn’t lose any of the matches she played for her national team at the 2019 women’s World Cup. Hayley fielded 13 goals for the Portland Thorns between 2016-2019. It is her highest so far.

She has made the Australian roster for the Tokyo Olympics. It is her debut following injury setbacks in previous ones. The Australian team captain is Sam Kerr of Chelsea FC.
