Hwang Hee-Chan’s Biography
Hee-Chan was born in Chuncheon-So, South Korea on 26 January 1996 to Hwang Won-Kyung and Song Young-Mi. Immediately he was born, his family moved to Bucheon until he was 11 years old.
Hee-Chan started his footballer career at Singok Elementary School in Uijeongbu, South Korea. When he graduated, he then attended Pohang Jecheol Middle School and joined the school’s football team. During the Hwanrang-Daegi Youth Cup and Dongwon Youth Cup in 2008, he scored the most goals in both competitions.
Hwang Hee-chan also played for the South Korean U-12 national team where his performance kept soaring as he scored 22 goals in the Kanga Cup making it the highest in the history of the tournament.
He started to play in Pohang Jecheol Middle School Team also known as Pohang Steelers U-15. In 2011, his team won the regional and national competitions because of his outstanding performance. He was later made the most valuable player (MVP) of the Korean Football Association U-15 league.
In 2014, Hee-Chan, Pohang Steeler wanted to sign him as a home-grown player but FC Red Bull Salzburg made a quick move that saw them landing the soccer star.
He participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics games where he scored a goal against Germany in their 3 – 3 group stage draw. Also, Hwang was in South Korea’s 28 man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. So far, he has represented his country at both junior and senior levels, making 32 appearances for the senior team and seeing the back of the net twice.
The South Korean started his career with FC Liefering where he played 31 matches and scored 13 goals. He moved to Red Bull Salzburg where he currently plays attacking midfielder (left) forward with the jersey number 9 in January 2016. So far, he has played 59 matches and scored 17 goals in Red Bull Salzburg.
