Jeremy Mayfield’s Biography
Jeremy Allen Mayfield was born on the 27th of May in 1969. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky which is where he spent all of his childhood. Mayfield lost his mother when he was still a child and his father, Terry Mayfield, got married to a woman called Lisa; Lisa and Jeremy never had a good relationship. Terry died in 2007 and in 2009 Jeremy accused his step-mother of killing him.
Jeremy showed an interest in racing even as a child and it was in his hometown of Owensboro that he started to race. At first, he raced with BMX bikes before he graduated to go-karts.
In 1988 when he was nineteen, Jeremy decided to move to Nashville to build a professional career in racing. But before he was allowed to race, he worked in the technical unit of the racing team Sadler Brothers.
Career Journey As a Racer
Jeremy Mayfield’s career as a professional racer began in 1993 with him participating in the Mello Yello 500 competition of that year. He raced for the Sadler team and used their Ford Thunderbird, finishing in the 29th position. By the following year, he expressed interest in racing in a NASCAR competition but he changed his team to Taylor Racing, where he also raced with a Ford vehicle.
In the course of his nineteen-year career, Mayfield has worked with twelve teams one of which was a team he created and named after himself. Mayfield created the team in 2009 because no team was willing to take him on as he has started to regress in his progress and for the accusations of doping that NASCAR had made against him.
Drug testing is a common practice in all sports and the ingenuity of this practice does not only lie in its effectiveness at weeding out frauds in different sports but in the randomness of drug testing. Jeremy Mayfield had been randomly selected for drug testing early in 2009 and he failed as he tested positive to methamphetamine (meth).
He took the case to a court and the judge, Graham Mullen, repelled the suspension temporarily; this happened on the 1st of July in 2009 but by the 15th of July, he tested positive for the same drug. This new result led to controversies with his stepmother and the court refused to take on a new case, which meant that he had to remain suspended.
Mayfield has since stated that he will only come back to NASCAR if he is allowed to get tested at a lab other than the ones they use and NASCAR has insisted that he get tested with one of their approved labs.

The doping allegations meant that Jeremy Mayfield had no sponsors and towards the latter days of his career, he started to make less money. He also had to pay taxes he owed which all came to $82,000. Mayfield has been suspended for almost a decade and this has affected his net worth which is currently estimated at just $100,000. Back in 2012, he was made to pay $1 million by the court after 5 of his dog attacked a mail carrier.

Jeremy Mayfield has been married twice, the first time was to a woman called Christiana Keith, they got married in 1993 and by 2001 they got divorced. Then he got remarried two years after to Shana Mayfield, both of them currently live in Denver. It is not known if he had any child from either of his marriages.

After he was suspended, Jeremy Mayfield decided to take on a job making deliveries; he did this while he waited for ruling from the court. The man hasn’t been idle since he was suspended. Among other things, he created a racing competition and currently competes in some local tournaments.
