Jerry Lynn is an American retired professional wrestler who is regarded as one of the legends of the sport. Apparently, wrestling has become one of the most-watched forms of entertainment worldwide and Lynn gained from its popularity to become one of the very famous people in the USA and around the world.
The American former wrestler has won a few titles and he is a two-time world champion. He has also worked for promotions like World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling, Ring of Honor among others. Jerry Lynn was born in Minneapolis on 12, 1963. He is married to Pam Lynn and they have two children.
Jerry Lynn’s Career Beginnings
Lynn began wrestling in different promotions in Minnesota and Michigan. He won both heavyweight and light heavyweight championships in those areas. He became the last challenger for the AWA World Heavyweight Championship that was hosted by Larry Zbyszko at the end of 1990.
Lynn also made his first trip to Japan when he wrestled for Universal Lucha Libre that same year. He was part of a tournament for the USWA Southern Heavyweight Championship where he wrestled for the United States Wrestling Association in Memphis. He, unfortunately, lost in the first round to Tony Anthony.

Lynn wrestled for the Global Wrestling Federation in Dallas, Texas in June 1991and he was also engaged in a two-year feud with the Lightning Kid which help him to get the exposure he needed in North America. Aside from being involved in a movie Crossing the Bridge (1992) which he acted as a stuntman and a high school senior, he later went on a tour with Michinoku Pro Wrestling in Japan and by July 1994, he went to Mexico under the masked alter-ego, Sultan Gargola for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. He lost his mask to Gran Naniwa in less than a month when he returned to Michinoku pro under the masked alter ego Golgotha Cross.
Jerry Lynn Goes International
Jerry Lynn took his trade to the international scene when he joined the World Championship Wrestling in September 1995. At the time, he was wrestling under his real name and also Mr. J.L. He went on to compete with the likes of wrestlers like Alex Wright, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero Sabu, and a few others. He, unfortunately, suffered a broken arm in a match against Dean Malenko which was aired on Nitro on Christmas night in December 1995.
In 1996, he represented WCW when he went to New Japan Pro Wrestling for their annual Best of the Super Juniors’ league, he finished in fifth place on Block A with two confirmed points to his name. Lynn suffered a six-man tag team loss when he teamed with Konnan and La Parka against Chris Jericho, Super Calo, and Chavo Guerrero Jr. at one of his last major matches at the Clash of the Champions XXXV. He was fired from WCW by Eric Bischoff in July 1997 while he was still injured.
His Work On The Extreme Championship Wrestling Stage
Jerry Lynn joined the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and made his debut as a fan favorite on September 20, 1997, at As Good as it Gets event at ECW Arena. He teamed up with Tommy Rogers and the duo began a rivalry with the team of Chris Candido and Lance Storm but Lynn’s team lost in a match at Ultimate Jeopardy. There was a rematch between the two teams but Lynn and Rogers, unfortunately, lost again. Lynn was booked in a series of matches against Justin Credible his fellow debutant, he later got involved in a feud with Lance Storm and Mikey Whipwreck but it was shortened when the later left for WCW.

After the feud with Storm ended, Lynn was booked in a match for ECW World Television Championship with Rob Van Dam at living dangerously in 1999. Lynn won the title from Van Dam. He later referred to himself as the new F’N Show mocking Van Dam’s nickname which was “The Whole F’N Show” claiming he would deprive Van Dam of his title. Lynn was not quite lucky in winning the world television title but got more title opportunities with Van Dam. Around that time, Lynn broke his ankle which took him out of action. When he returned, he challenged van dam for a match at Hardcore Heaven which Lynn won due to interference by Scotty Anton.
Lynn had the title of the ECW World Heavyweight Championship when he defeated Justin Credible at the Anarchy Rulz on October 1, 2000. He held the title for just a month before he lost it to Steve Corino. In 2001, at the ECW pay-per-view, Guilty as Charged, he lost to Van Dam through a Van Terminator.
Jerry Lynn’s Exploits After ECW
ECW went bankrupt in April 2001 he was hired by the WWF and made his TV debut on April 29, 2001, on the episode of Sunday Night Heat and he defeated Crash Holly in his debut match for the Light Heavyweight Championship. He later lost the title to Jeff Hardy. He had a knee injury after a notable match with Van Dam for the WWF Hardcore Championship on an episode of Sunday Night Heat which was meant to be released in February 2002.
Lynn joined the World Wrestling All-stars promotion after he left WWF. He was with World Wrestling All-stars from 2002-2003. He won a few titles and lost some while trying to retain the titles. Shortly after he left WWF he signed with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling taking part in a six-man tag match against the Flying Elvises. He later won the TNA X Division Championship and the NWA World Tag Team Championship twice. Lynn then suffered a severe shoulder injury tearing the tendon from the bone in his rotator cuff. He began to coach and plan matches for younger talents when he became a TNA road agent.
When he returned to the ring on June 10, 2005, he faced Justin Credible at Hardcore Homecoming. He then refereed a match between Sean Waltman and A.J. Styles where he did not give Waltman any chance to cheat. This led to a match between Lynn and Waltman on August 14 at sacrifice which Lynn won. Lynn began to appear more on-screen as a road agent in January 2006. Lynn won a ladder match which made him the number one contender for the TNA X Division Championship.

The retired wrestler made several appearances for Ring of Honor before he became a member full time. He was also a participant in the inaugural match of the TV show Ring of Honor Wrestling. He won his first ROH world title when he defeated Nigel Mcguinness at Supercard of Honor IV. He later lost the title to Austin Aries at Manhattan Mayhem III. He received the pro wrestling illustrated award for the comeback of the year 2009 for his stint in ROH. In his final match with the promotion, he was defeated by Mike Bennett at Final Battle 2012: Doomsday on December 16, 2012.
Lynn returned to TNA on January 12 as part of his retirement tour. In his final match with Van Dam, he lost in a no disqualification match. He wrestled at Minneapolis convention center on March 23, 2013, to mark the 25th anniversary of his career as a professional wrestler. He faced Horace the psychopath, JB Trask and Sean Waltman in a four-way match which he won the match. Lynn began to work as an agent and producer after he retired at ROH. He signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in 2019.
