Marcos Giron is a 31-year-old American professional tennis player from Thousand Oaks, California. He played high school and college tennis at Thousand Oaks High School and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he earned several titles, including CIF doubles & singles titles, and the NCAA singles title. Giron turned pro in 2014 and has competed in the four major Grand Slam events, recording his first win at the 2020 US Open.

1. Marcos Giron Is The Youngest Of His Parents’ Two Children

Marcos Giron was born Marcos Andres Giron on July 24, 1993, in Thousand Oaks, California to Andres and Rosanna Giron. He is the second of his parents’ two children, with an older sister named Gabriela.

He had his high school education at Thousand High School before proceeding to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

2. He Has Argentinian Heritage

Although Marcos is an American citizen, he has Argentinian heritage through his father’s family who are from the South American country. In March 2019, he shared throwback images on Instagram about when he and his father visited his grandfather whom he referred to as “OG Grandpa Giron” in Bariloche, Argentina.

The post caught the attention of a couple of his followers who couldn’t believe that he was partly Argentine.

3. His Mother Introduced Him To Tennis

Giron got to know about the game of tennis at a tender age. He was about 6 years old when his mother introduced him to it. She would take him to a local park where she fed him balls. He took the lessons, turned them into his passion, and then pursued a career.

4. Giron Played High School And College Tennis

As captured, Marcos Giron attended Thousand Oaks High School, where he played tennis for 3 years and subsequently continued at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)

While in high school, he earned All-American honors before proceeding to UCLA, where he won the CIF doubles and CIF singles titles as a junior. Furthermore, he won the 2014 NCAA singles title after beating Pepperdine Alex Sarkissian in the final, and the singles title at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup at UCLA.

5. He Turned Pro In 2014

After winning the NCAA singles title, Giron earned a wildcat to the main draw of the 2014 US Open. Thus, he forfeit his senior year and turned pro in 2014, but he underwent right hip and left hip surgery in December 2015, and February 2016, respectively, which kept him out of action for 8 months.

6. The California-Born Recorded His First Win At The Grand Slam in 2020

Since turning pro in 2014, Giron had never won a single match at a Grand Slam event until he did it at the 2020 US Open. He won his first match at the event against South African-Australian Marc Polmans.

Later that same year, he recorded his first-ever win over a top-10 player Matteo Berrettini at the Paris Masters.

7. He Made His Olympic Debut At The Tokyo Olympics

Marcos Giron made his first appearance on an Olympic stage at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He advanced to the second round of the competition after defeating Norbert Gombos of Slovakia in his first match.

He was selected to represent the United States following an incredible outing in 2021, which includes reaching a singles career-high 65.

8. The Former UCLA Bruins Tennis Player Would Have Been A Doctor If Not For Tennis

If not for tennis, the Thousand Oaks native would have been a doctor according to reports. The possibility is there because his father Andres Giron is a physician who is a specialist in cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. However, we have been unable to confirm the authenticity of the claim at the time of this writing.

9. He Earns From His Professional Tennis Career

Marcos Giron’s net worth is currently estimated to be around $2 million. He made the fortune from his tennis career and also from endorsement deals. At the moment, he has a couple of endorsements with sports and recreation brand, Yonex Tennis and American tennis brand K-Swiss.

10. Marcos Giron Is 5 Feet 11 Inches (1.80m) Tall

Marcos Giron is 5 feet 11 inches (1.80m) tall. As a tall player, he has the advantage of throwing long and powerful swings on the court, especially against players that are way below him.
