As time went by, his fighting skills improved and he was invited to join the High Performance Youth School. Shortly after, he began to compete both nationally and internationally. At the start of his amateur career, Robeisy won a handful of junior titles including the Pan-American Cadet Championships in 2009.

By the time he arrived in London in 2012, he was well prepared for the tournament, and even though he was only 18 years old at the time he knew he could win because of the quality of training he had put into it. He went to the tournament confident that he could win all five matches, which he did, and eventually won a gold medal in the flyweight category.
Similarly, he won another gold medal in 2016 for the Cuban national team in the bantamweight category.

The professional athlete revealed that in Cuba, he had little to no motivation to train. Largely because the system does not take care of boxers well. In addition to that, the country’s economy was in bad shape and he was struggling to get by, He added that he had to sell his Olympic gold medals just to make ends meet.
There were also issues with the amateur system that did not help in improving his skills. All these issues caused Robeisy take the tough decision to leave home. He contacted a friend who lived in Florida and knew could help him. At the time, he was at a tournament in Germany. However, she could not do anything at the time, until he moved to Mexico a few weeks later for a training camp with the Cuban national team. From there he was able to leave for the US. He received his U.S. visa, 6 months after leaving Cuba.

The Cuban Boxer Has Faced a lot of Tough Opponents
Robeisy has faced a lot of tough opponents in his career. He revealed that one of the toughest fighters he has fought against is Mikhail Aloyan, who beat him twice in 2011. The Cuban-born has still not avenged his defeat. He added that Mikhail was a very awkward, difficult, and frustrating opponent to fight.
Another fighter who gave Robeisy a run for his money is Andy Cruz, whom the boxer revealed that to him, was the best amateur boxer in the world at the time. Other strong opponents he has faced include Shakur Stevenson, Lazaro Alvarez, and Andrew Selby.
