On February 19, 1981, in the town of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, Dillinger was born Ronnie William Arneill. At a young age, he showed a keen interest in sports and participated actively in hockey.
As regards his education, he received his secondary education at the Laura Secord School before he proceeded to the Hart Wrestling and WrestlePlex Schools to work on what would later be his profession.
After the training he gained from the schools and the prestigious wrestler Eric Young, Dillinger finally took to wrestling as a profession in 2002 under the name of Shawn Spears for Blood Sweat and Ears, Border City Wrestling and World Xtreme Wrestling, and in 2006 he got signed to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). While at the WWE, he was attached to the Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) where he performed as a solo fighter in addition to a tag team with Cody Runnels with whom he earned the Throwbacks title.
Dillinger made quite a reputation at the OVW having won the Television Championship among championships before proceeding to the Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and ECW in 2008 as Gavin Spears and not the existing Shawn Spears. In 2009, he ensued to the Independent Circuit where he teamed with El Hijo de L.A. Park, fought at the Ring of Honours, a match he conquered Alex Payne; and fought alongside Idol Stevens to earn the WWC World Tag Team Championship.
He adopted Tye Dillinger as his wrestling name as opposed to the known Shawn Spears and Gavin Spears when he returned to the WWE and became one of the several performers of NXT from 2013 to 2017. It was here that he earned to nickname perfect ten and won matches against Solomon Crowe and Buddy Murphy, Tagged with Bobby Roode, Roderick Strong, Kassius Ohno, and Ruby Riot among others. Following his performances that added him fame at the NXT, he joined SmackDown from 2017 to 2019 and made it to the Royal Rumble’s first ten amid several competitions alone and as Tag Team.
At present, Dillinger has gone back to his initial stage name of Shawn Spears and is part of the Independent Circuit and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) where he feud against his ex-best friend Cody, became teammates with MJF and Sammy Guevara.
