Mercito Gesta is a professional boxer and a proud native of Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines. Mercito Gesta was born on 12 October 1987 to a sporting family. His father Anecito was a professional Muay Thai MMA fighter and he has also served as his coach and mentor from a tender age. There is no record of his mother being a professional fighter but she has supported the career passions of her husband and the family.
Meanwhile, Mercito’s older brother, Anecto Jr. is also a professional boxer. Interesting isn’t it? Gesta started boxing at age 15, but he never competed in amateur bouts. Instead, he made his professional debut on October 19, 2003, defeating Edwin Picardal by unanimous decision.
The brilliant and perseverant kid made a name for himself in the local Filipino fight scene, going 10-0-1 before relocating to the US and continuing his ascent to the top of the professional boxing world.
Gesta started competing and defeating tougher opponents in the United States, and by 2010, he had won the vacant NABO Youth lightweight title by knocking out Oscar Meza in the fourth round.
Following eight more victories, the unbeaten fighter was given the chance to compete for the world championship on December 8, 2012, against Miguel Vazquez. After suffering his first defeat, Gesta needed some time to recover from the cunning Vazquez’s unanimous decision victory over him.
After knocking out Edgar Riovalle and Luis Arceo 16 months later, he returned to the ring and fought fellow contender Carlos Molina in an exciting 10-round contest that was adjudged a draw.

Mercito Gesta got married to his devoted fiancée, Summer on October 20, 2017, in a small-scale ceremony at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Laguna Nigel.
Soon after, the newlyweds and their nearest and dearest gathered at Cannons Seafood Grill in Dana Point for supper and celebration to cap the night! Describing his love journey on an Instagram post, Mercito said
We started as friends in 2010, then two years later we fell in love. After three years we got engaged, and now we are getting married. We’ve been through a lot of challenges and obstacles together, but through it all, you have always been there for me. You have never given up on me, and I truly admire your unconditional love for me. You are my rock, my soulmate, and my other half. That is why I am marrying this wonderful and beautiful woman in my life. This is the week of our wedding my baby. I’m excited for us! I love you!”
