Yerry Fernando Mina Gonzalez was born on September 23 1994 in Guachene, Colombia as the eldest of 2 brothers.
Life was not rosy for his family as a child and he had to stay in a single bedroom with his family. To make ends meet, he started to cycle in order to deliver food from the stall of his grandmother.
At the young age of 14, Mina promised himself to work hard to provide for his mother so she never goes hungry after he saw her crying. About 4 years after the promise, Yerry Mina gained a spot to play for the Colombian professional football team, Deportivo Pasto.
He Was 19 Years Old When He Began His Professional Senior Career
At the age of 18, Mina joined the youth team of Deportivo Pasto and in 2013 at the age of 19, he started to play for the club’s senior team up until 2014 when he moved to Independiente Sante Fe to start another career that would see him making 67 appearances and scoring 7 goals. He helped the team to win the 2015 Superliga Colombiana.
The international career of Yerry Mina saw him joining the Brazillian club, Palmeiras in 2016 following his 5-year contract. However, his stay with the team ended when FC Barcelona made a move to sign him after an agreement with Palmeiras on an €11.8 million transfer fee and €100 million release fee. The contract with Barcelona turned him to be the first Colombian to officially play for Barcelona.
On August 9, 2018, Yerry Mina moved to Everton to begin another club career for a market value of €20 million and a transfer fee of €30.2 million.

Yerry Mina started his career playing for the Colombia national team in 2016 when he was a member of the Under-23 squad. Also, he became a part of the Colombian national team at the World Cup of 2018 in Russia.
There, he made an impacting football statement with 3 header goals. This became a milestone in his career as he made a history of the most number of goals scored by a defender in a single World Cup Tournament. The first time a defender scored the same number of goals in a single World Cup tournament was in 1974 (Paul Breitner) and before Mina was Andrea Brehme in 1990.
