Alina Maratovna Kabayeva was born on the 12th of May 1983 in Toshkent Shahri, Uzbekistan. She was born to Marat Kabayev, a former professional football player from Tarta and a Russian mother who was a basketball player. She spent her early years first in Uzbekistan, then Kazakhstan, and finally Russia. After high school, she proceeded to Moscow State University where she studied management in hotel and construction business. Alina was raised as a Muslim but converted to Christianity in 2003.

In 2001, then 19-year-old Alina was banned after it was determined that she was involved in doping. Alina tested positive for a diuretic, Furosemide.

Because of that, she was disqualified for two years alongside Irina Chashchina and was denuded of all the 2001 Goodwill Games and World Cup awards.

They were not allowed to engage in any part of the competition. However, in the second year of disqualification, they were allowed to participate in official tournaments under strictly established rules.

The former rhythmic gymnast Alina Kabaeva and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin reportedly welcomed twin daughters in February 2015 in Switzerland; and twin boys in April 2019 at the Kulakov maternity clinic in Moscow. Alina was reportedly accommodated as Putin’s guest on the fourth floor of the Kulakov Research Centre. She disappeared from the limelight after news about the birth of her sons circulated.

As a politician, she represented the United Russia Party as a member of the Russian Parliament between 2007 and 2014. It is said that she enacted several controversial laws and became a close advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
