Former Bulgaria and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov could have played at Manchester City, instead, he joined the club’s fierce city rivals Manchester United in a 4-year deal worth £30 million on deadline day in September 2008.
As the Bulgarian moved to Manutd, Mancity ended up signing Brazilian forward Robinho for £32 million, which wasn’t part of their initial plan.
The 44 year-old reveals how he has been passionate about playing for United that any other club or interest didn’t matter to him.
When his agent told him about City’s interest in him and how the club would pay more money for him, Berbatov told him to f*** off he is going to United.
Money wasn’t the motivation for him, it was more about his dream and the fact he came from a small country in Eastern Europe.

He Impressed At Old Trafford
After joining United on 1 September 2008, the Bulgarian was handed the number 9 shirt, he spent 4 years playing at Old Trafford, and helped the club to win 2 EPL titles and the League Cup.
He had an impressive debut season that saw United lifting the EPL title for the 10th time since it became known as the Premier League in 1992.
However, Berbatov’s form dipped in the following season sparking rumors of his move away from the club, but the claims were denied by former Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson.
Before leaving the club in 2012 at the age of 31, he found the back of the net 48 times in 108 appearances.
While on the international scene, he has featured for his country’s national team from 1991 to 2010, scoring 48 goals in 78 appearances, thus becoming Bulgaria’s all-time leading goal scorer.
He has played for clubs such as CSKA Sofia, Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham, Fulham, Monaco, PAOK, and Kerala Blasters.
Currently, he is not playing club football, but he is yet to make any official announcement regarding his retirement.
