This brilliant football player was born Megan Anna Rapinoe on the 5th of July 1985 in the city of Redding, California, United States. she was born to Denise and Jim Rapinoe and was raised along with her four other siblings (Cece, Jennifer, Brian & Michael) and twin sister, Rachael Elizabeth Rapinoe.
Rachael was a midfielder and forward with the Stjarnan women’s football team and the US women’s national U23. A re-torn ligament of the knee informed her retirement and move to medicine. Her father was a soccer coach and was part of Megan’s early football career.
She had her high school education at Foothill High School in Redding but played soccer for Sacramento Pride (Elk Grove Pride). She also participated in other sports; track (in her freshman and sophomore years) and basketball (in freshman, sophomore, and senior years). In 1999, Megan made the U14 Olympic Development Program team for Northern California and the regional team in 2002.
17-year-old Megan and Rachael participated in the Women’s Premier Soccer League from 2002 through 2005. The Portland Pilots offered full scholarships to both sisters and they accepted. She had a highly successful stay at college scoring multiple goals (30), including game-winning goals and assists (28). She suffered an injury in her anterior cruciate ligament twice in 2006 and 2007. Upon her recovery, she entered the Women’s Professional Soccer Draft.
On the 16th of January, Rapinoe was 2nd pick in round 1 by The Chicago Red Stars. When the Chicago team stopped operating in 2010 December, she moved on to Philadelphia Independence and then MagicJack. She played the game-winning goal for Sydney FC W-League against Melbourne Victory in the 2011- 2012 season after she was signed as a guest in 2011 October. Megan also played alongside her fellow national teammates for the Seattle Sounders Women team.
A move to Olympique Lyons in 2013 January saw her record 28 appearances and 8 goals in one year. Anna joined her present team, Seattle Reign FC in 2013. At the time, the club was on a goalless spell but with her excellent football skills, she helped them reach the final of the 2014 season, although they lost to FC Kansas City. She was named the NSWL Player of the Week in Week 16 of 2013 and Week 1 of 2015.
Megan Rapinoe also plays for the women’s national team of the United States. She played for the U16 team from 2002- 2003 representing them in the 2003 US Youth Soccer Association International Tournament among others.
The midfielder also played for the U19 team from 2003- 2005, scoring the 3 goals that earned the team 3rd place at the FIFA U19 Women’s World Championship held in Thailand in 2004. As a part of the senior team, she has won various awards including a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics and two medals, silver in 2011 & gold in 2015 in World Championships.

In an Out Magazine interview, Megan outed as a lesbian on 2nd July 2012. In 2013, her 5-year relationship with Sarah Walsh, the Australian football player, came to an end. She then entered a relationship with Sera Cahoone, a recording artist, to whom she got engaged in 2015 August but the engagement was called off in early 2017.
Since 2016 fall, Megan has been in a romantic relationship with Suzanne ‘Sue’ Brigit Bird, a player with the Seattle Storm club. They appeared on ESPN’s Body Issue cover in 2018 as the first couple of the same-sex to do so. Megan serves as an advocate for many LGBT organizations and was also awarded by the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center as a board of director.
Despite having come really close to getting married, Megan is still unmarried till date. However, they got engaged in 2020.
