Sergio Pettis’s Parents, Annette (née Garcia), and Eugene Pettis Jr. are his biggest inspirations. His father died when he was only 10 years old, however, his mother supported his career alongside his two brothers, Reynaldo Pettis and Anthony Pettis.

He Lost His Father When He Was Young
Sergio was only 10 years old when he lost his father, Eugene Pettis Jr on November 12, 2003. Records indicate that he was stabbed to death by robbers at his friend’s home.
While not so much about his father’s early life and family background, we garnered that he was of Puerto Rican descent and was a painter.
Even though he died when Sergio was young, he wasn’t always part of their lives following his addictions. Being a painter, Eugene took a lot of pain medication to treat physical ailments he sustained from years of painting and soon became an addict.
The MMA fighter also revealed that his father shared an interest in combat sports and though he didn’t take up a professional career, he could hold his end in a fight.
Sergio’s Mother was a Former Gymnast
There are dearths of information about the mother of Sergio, Annette Garcia. However, the MMA fighter revealed that after the death of his father, his mother was left with the responsibility of raising them.
Sergio also revealed that the family got their athleticism from their mother who was a former gymnast. More so, she is his biggest inspiration and impacts him daily.

Sergio Pettis Grew Up With Two Siblings
The American mixed martial artist was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin alongside his two older brothers, Anthony Pettis and Reynaldo Pettis.
Reynaldo Pettis
Sergio’s oldest brother, Reynaldo Pettis is the least famous of all his siblings. Nonetheless, he is also into martial arts and has over 20+ years of experience. While he has never pursued a professional career, the Milwaukee-born runs two martial arts academies in Milwaukee and Oak Creek and also owns a mixed martial arts-themed bar/restaurant alongside his younger brother, Anthony Pettis.
Asides from that, he holds a 4th-degree black belt and a Roufusport kickboxing brown belt. Reynaldo has also earned multiple state championships and is a top ten world champion competitor.
The brothers became very close after the death of their father in 2003. Sergio revealed in an interview that his family is all he has and his brothers have been very supportive of his MMA career.
Anthony Pettis is also an MMA Fighter
The second oldest brother of Sergio is also a professional mixed martial artist. He was born on January 27,1987 and is 34 years old at the moment.
Anthony fights in the cruiserweight division of the UFC. He previously fought in the Welterweight, Lightweight, and Featherweight divisions and was a former UFC Lightweight Champion.
According to Sergio, it was his brother who inspired him to join mixed martial arts. As you would find, he started off in Taekwondo and by the age of 13, he had already become a world champion.
Nonetheless, Sergio has since fallen in love with martial arts and signed with Bellator MMA and is the current Bellator Bantamweight Champion. Prior, he fought in the Bantamweight and flyweight divisions of the UFC.
