The English professional goalkeeper was born on July 7, 1987, in Newcastle, England. She had her high school education at the Tanfield School, a co-educational comprehensive school in Stanley. While in high school, she was part of the school’s soccer team and did quite well. After her graduation, she was accepted into Gatehead College under the purview of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme.

Carly Telford started playing football pretty early in her life. She was active as a footballer right from her high school days through her college years. She kick-started her youth career at the Chester-le-Street and Newcastle United Academy and put up incredible displays, stunning the coaches.
She made her senior career debut with Sunderland in 2002 and in 2007, she joined Telford joined Leeds Carnegie United Ladies club. While at Leeds Telford she was named player of the match during the 2018 FA Women’s Cup final after displaying great skills in Leeds’ 4-1 defeat to Arsenal.
After Telford left Leeds, she was signed by Chelsea ladies ahead of the Maiden 2011 FA WSL season, nevertheless, by October 2012 it was announced that the player will join an Australian club Perth Glory on loan. She moved to Perth for the 2012-13 winter season on loan. Afterward, Telford returned to Chelsea in 2013. She made a total of 29 appearances for Chelsea before leaving the club in December 2013 after a three-year encounter.
In 2014, Telford joined Notts County preparatory to the 2014 FA WSL season. While at Notts, she was reunited with her former Leeds coach Rick Passmoor. Sadly Telford sustained a shoulder injury prior to the FA Women’s final.

Eventually, by November 2015, Telford renewed her contract with the team for the next two years.
Again in June 2016, Telford suffered yet another injury that tempered with her angle ligaments in the game against Doncaster Bells which Notts later won. Consequently, Telford went off the pitch for 3 months while Notts quickly signed Lizzie Durack as a replacement. Notwithstanding, she was able to make a total of 30 appearances with the team before the club folded up in April 2017.
Carly Telford then had to return to her former club Chelsea in 2017. After playing in Chelsea for about 5 years, the club sold her to San Diego Wave FC on January 24, 2022.
Telford’s International Career
On the international frontiers, Carly Telford made her senior team international debut on the 11th of March, 2017 when she came in as a substitute in the match against Scotland. It is noteworthy that she had previously played at the U-17, U-19, U-21, and U-23 levels respectively.
In May 2015 the England national team coach, Mark Sampson named Telford in his final squad for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted in Canada, where England eventually finished in 3rd place even though Telford did not feature in any game at the tournament.
Notwithstanding, she was active in the England squad that won the SheBelieve Cup in the United States as she featured in two of the games against Brazil and Japan. Also, the goalkeeper was later invited by coach, Phil Neville into the 2019 England world cup squad.
