Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo is a former English professional golfer who gained fame in the mid-90s. He became inspired to play golf at the age of 14 when he began watching Jack Nicklaus play the 1971 Masters on his parents’ new television then. Since he began playing golf, he has played a lot of championships and masters with lots of wins.

Faldo was born on 18 July 1957 in Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom. He was the only child of his parents, George Arthur Faldo and Joyce Smalley Faldo. While his father was an accountant in a chemical company his mother was always with him fueling his interest in sports.
Growing up, Faldo was an enthusiastic swimmer and cyclist. He won the Hertfordshire county medal in the 100-meter breaststroke when he was 10 years old. While schooling at Sir Frederic Osborne School, he also played soccer, rugby, basketball, cricket, and tennis.
When he watched the masters tournament which Jack Nicklaus won, his mother arranged for him to have six lessons and he became clenched to the game. He eventually played his first round of golf when he was 14 years old. Even though he started playing late, he was so hooked to the game that he began to lose interest in his studies.
At the age of 16, he convinced his parents about letting him quit school so he could focus on his golf game. After a lot of training, he became part of an All-England Boys golf team and won two amateur championships in 1975.
Professional Career
While Nick Faldo was working as a carpet fitter, he won the England Amateur and British Youth Championship. He played for the University of Houston for one year before he became a professional in 1976 and joined the European Professional Golfers Association that same year.
Faldo won his first tournament in 1977 and was named rookie of the year for the European PGA Tour. He seemed to have gotten better as time progresses as the rookie soon started winning more championships.
In the mid-1980s he decided to become a better golfer by changing his swing. With the help of his coach, David Leadbetter, his swing became more efficient and tight. He began to practice by hitting 1,500 balls daily, this really improved his putting game and soon he became the pride of Great Britain.
He led a high profile life on the European PGA Tour, he had his first major win, the British Open in Muirfield in Scotland. He also won 2 majors in 1990 including the Johnnie walker classic. He had a major win in 1998 when he won the World Cup of Golf that was the first time England ever won.
Despite his achievements and wins, Faldo did not relent at his game. His last PGA win was at Nissan Open in 1997, that same year, he won the WA Open.
Nick Faldo began preparing for life after golf in the late 90s and early 2000. He became a commentator with columns in newspapers and magazines and also an analyst for television channels. After he reduced his playing schedule, he became a broadcaster for ABC Sports’ PGA Tour coverage where he worked with his former revival, Paul Azinger from 2004 to 2006. He signed a contract with CBS to replace Lanny Wadkins as the lead golf analyst. In 2007, he became the lead analyst for golf channel coverage on the PGA Tour.
In 2009, he was made a knight bachelor as birthday honors for his services to golf, and in 2014, he was announced the 2014 recipient of the Payne Stewart award on 9 September 2014. Unfortunately, since Faldo began his personal work, he has had less positive support from his fans.
