1. Brief Biography of Maite Oroz
She was born Maite Oroz Areta on 25th March 1998 in the town of Huarte in the independent province of Navarre in Northern Spain. The 27 years old midfielder grew up in her native community where she started playing football at the age of 6.
Although it is not clear who might have inspired her to fall in love with football at such a tender, it won’t be entirely out of place to say she was inspired by the boys playing in town.
And since she loved it, she went ahead to join the boys’ team in her hometown of Huarte. It became the place where she got her first taste of football.
Showing much promise and skills with the ball at her feet, she later joined the Osasuna youth team at the age of 12. And went on to feature for the club’s senior team in the Segunda Division before the club women’s side was scrapped in 2014, making her join Atletico Bilboa.
2. Her Club Career
Oroz moved to Atletico Bilboa in 2014 following the disbandment of the Osasuna women’s team. She spent a year playing with Bilboa’s team B, before she made her first appearance for the senior team in September 2015. And becoming an integral part of the team, making 30 appearances in the 2015/16 Primera Division as Bilbao rounded up the season as champions.
She suffered a grave injury that kept her out for a complete 2018/19 season. When her deal with the club expired in the summer of 2020, she joined Real Madrid.
3. She Represented Spain At Various Youth Levels
The midfielder has featured in most of the youth-level teams in Spain. She was part of the under-17 squad that won the bronze medal at the 2013 edition of the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship. And also silver at the 2014 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, and gold at the 2015 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship.
She was also in the Under-19 team that reached the finals of the 2016 edition of the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship. The same squad went on to win the competition a year later.
