Alessia Russo’s father, Mario Russo was a footballer with the record of being the Metropolitan Police record goalscorer. Before him, his father was a footballer and a Manchester United fan. So, it is safe to say that Mario is more or less like a chain in his family in the aspect of football. He inherited love for the game from his father and passed it to his striker daughter whose playing and goalscoring ability have won her the hearts of football fans.
To say the least, Alessia’s parents, Mario and Carol Russo could easily pass as an important foundation on which the footballer has built herself and her career. They have contributed and supported her throughout her life and career. Currently, the 25-year-old is one of the most talented female footballers and has played for the English women’s football team, Man United, and Chelsea, and was signed to Arsenal in 2023. Seems like there is more about the footballer’s parents and their impact on her life right? Of course.
You will have to read further to find out everything about them.
Alessia Russo’s Father is Originally Italian and His Father Exposed Him to Football
Mario Russo is of Italian origin but was born in Sydenham, London. His father, Alessia’s grandfather was from Sicily and he later moved to England where his love for football was honed.
It wasn’t long before Mario’s father fell in love with Busby Babes – a group of footballers recruited and trained by Manchester United F.C.
Somehow, the oldest Russo passed his love of football to Mario and somehow, a generational “romance” in the world of football and sports in the family began.
Mario Russo was a Goalscoring Recordbreaker and was Alessia’s Coach When she was 5
Alessia’s father was a great football player and he had an 18-year-long career with the Metropolitan Police. He joined the police force in 1980 and represented the British Police on several occasions.
Before his retirement, the former footballer became a Met’s goalscorer.
This is not the end of his achievements in football. When his youngest child and only daughter, Alessia was only 5 years old, Mario took her to the team he was coaching, West Farleigh FC. There, the English striker started training as one of the only 2 girls among the boys.
When Mario realized that his little girl needed more, he moved on to another boy’s team, Bearsted.
Apparently, Alessia’s father was one of the foremost coaches that the serial goalscorer had.
This is similar to the story of another footballer, Canada’s Christine Sinclair whose first coach was her mother. Sinclair was at the time only 4 years old.
Going back to Mario’s story, the former footballer has been a constant support to his daughter’s thriving career in football.
Who is Alessia’s Mother?
The footballer’s mother is Carol Russo. She was not originally from a football family but you wouldn’t blame her if she fell in love with the game, would you? Well, she actually did and definitely still does.
Carol raised athletes and was also married to one. For all we know, she has equally been supportive of her daughter’s career as a 2022-2023 Manchester United Women’s Player of the Year, Alessia.
Alessia Russo’s Parents Have 2 Other Older Children
Mario and Carol Russo have three children, including Alessia’s 2 older brothers, Luca Russo and Giorgio Russo.
Luca Russo is the oldest child of the athletic family. He attended St. Simon Stock Catholic School and later St. Mary’s University, Twickenham where he studied Strength and Conditioning Science.
From 2015 to 2017, Alessias’s older brother again attended the University of Missouri-Columbia in the United States. At the college, Luca obtained a Master’s in Positive Coaching Psychology M.Ed., Positive coaching.
With respect to his career, Luca is also into sports. He served as a football coach and also served as an international department assistant at Mass Premier Soccer and Global Premier Soccer.
After his career as a fitness and conditioning coach and director of football, he became a director at Volante Sports.
Now, looking at Alessia’s immediate older brother, Giorgio Russo, he was also an athlete but currently works as an account manager. The St. Simon Stock Catholic School graduate also worked with British Airways.
