The football star was born to a father named John Naeher, and a mother called Donna Lynn Naeher, both of whom have been very supportive of her. They have been on record to have done everything within their power to support her in her journey to success on the football pitch including traveling long distances to watch her play.

Alyssa’s father was even a high school soccer coach, so he, naturally, has always been happy to see his girl take interest in football and thus helped her develop into who she now is.

The US female soccer player is actually a twin to Amanda who also used to play football but is now a teacher and soccer coach. Amanda and Alyssa are very close and have shared a lot of things together.

When the twin sisters were little, she and Amanda would go to the yard and she would stay in front of any makeshift goalpost they could find while Amanda who loved being a striker, would take shots at her with a football. Alyssa would try to make the most saves she could. She developed a deep passion for goalkeeping from doing this.

She also has a younger sister called Abigail.

2. Early Footballing Days

Alyssa began to love football when she was still very little. Starting out from the yard in her home, she and her sister Amanda would play ball for hours on almost a daily basis.

When she began school at Christian Heritage School, Alyssa became a football player who earned praise from all who watched her. She became a three-time All-State and a three-time FAA All-Conference selection at Christian Heritage School.

After she had finished the Christian Heritage School and had attended Penn State University, Alyssa joined the university’s soccer team playing as a goalkeeper from 2006 to 2009. She started in all the games she played for the team. She had 88 appearances during her college career.

Alyssa began her professional club career in 2010 when she was selected to be part of the Boston Breakers as the 11th overall pick in the first round. The Boston Breakers were an American football team that competed in the National Women’s Soccer League. The club ceased to exist in 2018.

Alyssa became the first goalkeeper to be selected in the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) draft. She appeared firstly on August 4, 2010, against the Atlanta Beat, making a great impression with some good saves.

In 2011, during the off-season following the WPS season that year, Alyssa got transferred to Turbine Potsdam, a German football club. At the time of Alyssa’s transfer, Turbine Potsdam were the Bundesliga champions.

After her stay in Germany, Alyssa returned to America and in May 2013 and signed with Boston Breakers again. The young goalkeeper became a fans’ favorite because of her proactive movements to stop strikers from finding the back of the net. She made many saves, some of which were described by pundits as ‘aesthetic’.

After leaving Boston Breakers, Alyssa joined Chicago Red Stars, another American club on November 22, 2015. The goalkeeper was traded from Boston Breakers for Whitney Engen, a defender with Chicago Red Stars.

Since joining Chicago Red Stars, Alyssa has continued with her heroics, making some really impressive saves for the club. In fact, less than a year after joining the club, she was named the Player of the Month in May 2016. Besides this, the NWSL Media Association named her the Player of the Week in week 6 of the 2018 season. She has continued to prove her worth to all.
