Becoming a gold medalist as an amateur, Angel Acosta also held the WBO light flyweight title from 2017 to 2019. The Puerto Rican made his professional debut in November 2012 and ever since, he has made himself known despite having a difficult beginning.
Angel Acosta has been dubbed as the symbol of hope for his countrymen in Barrio Obrero. He is seen as an inspiration for all the kids in his community and beyond. He reportedly has a 12-0 professional record.

The professional boxer is currently married to his fellow boxer, Arely Abigail Mucino. The latter is a Mexican boxer coached by her father Jose Juan Mucino. She has three sisters who are also boxers.
Angel’s wife has won twelve championships and has a record of 30-2. She held the IBF female flyweight title in 2001 and WBC female flyweight title from 2018 to 2019 and as of September 2020, she is ranked the second-best active female flyweight by the Ring and BoxRec.
As regards their marriage, it is not known when exactly the two became a couple. However, their ultimate goal of becoming world champions is what is certain. The couple intends to make history as the first couple of world champions.
Angel Acosta Has Nine Siblings
Born October 8, 1990, the former WBO Light flyweight was born the seventh out of the nine children his parents had. He and his siblings were raised in a low-income working-class area in Barrio Obrero in San Juan.
While growing up, his family reportedly lived in abject poverty. His family later moved to a public housing project.
He later lost two of his siblings during his formative years. His eldest sibling left the family to live outside the Island

1. The Boxer Dropped Out of School in Seventh Grade
While growing up, things became so difficult for Angel and his family after two of his siblings died and one fled away. He had to drop out in seventh grade in other to do menial jobs and earn enough money to support his mother.
He also worked as a delivery boy for a local store while he occasionally fought as a hobby and also as an additional source of income for his immediate family.

2. Angel Acosta Initially did not Want to Move Away from Barrio Obrero
Training himself to become a better boxer, Angel challenged himself by training with heavier adults as a teenager. He later joined a volunteer program headed by AIBA referee Jose Bonet. He became a family face within his community and was gradually becoming a hero in his environs.
During his amateur years, he improved his technical aspects under the tutelage of Jose Laureano and Victor Ortiz. In 2010, he won the national title by defeating Emanuel Ramirez in the finals of the senior flyweight division of the 2010 Isaac Barrientos Tournament.
He also participated in the La Romana Cup in the Dominican Republic where he won the event’s bronze medal.
However, despite his popularity and success, he was reportedly reluctant to move away from his hometown at first to pursue his professional career.
As an amateur, the boxer won a gold medal at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.
In other to move to the super flyweight division, he has been scheduled to face his countryman, Janel Rivera in a ten-round super flyweight bout on May 12 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio California.
