The Russian tennis player, Anna Blinkova has competed in Grand Slam singles at the Australian Open (2017 & 2020), French Open (2019), Wimbledon (2018), and also US Open (2017, 2018 & 2019). The talented Russian tennis player has won the double title on the WTA Tour, one single and doubles title on the WTA Challenger Tour and three singles titles and six doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. 

Blinkova has worked hard and improved in her performance over the years, the 21-year old player did not win a single match as a junior but has done quite impressively well in the WTA category. 

Who is Anna Blinkova?

Anna Vladimirovna Blinkova was born on September 10 1998 to Elena and Vladimir Blinkova in Moscow, Russia. There is no much information about the schools she attended but it is certain that she was from the Empire Tennis Academy. 

She also posted on her Facebook page that she graduated from a college in Moscow Russia in May 2020. She resides at Pavlovsky Posad near Moscow, Russia. 

Professional Tennis Career

Blinkova turned professional in 2015 and since then, the Russian player has been doing well. In the 2015 Wimbledon Championship, she was the runner up at the junior competition in the girls’ singles. In August 2015, she was ranked No. 3 junior tennis player in the world. She also won one doubles title on ITF Circuit. 

In October 2016, she also won her first match in the main draw of a WTA tournament in Moscow. Blinkova also reached 2r once and fell 1r on WTA main draw debut at Rabat and won two singles and two doubles on ITF Circuit. Her first grand slam appearance was at 2017 Australian Open and she won the first round match against Monica Niculescu. That same year, she reached 2r twice, fell 1r five times including Wimbledon and US Open. She won two doubles titles on ITF Circuit. On August 20,2018, she made the top 100 debuts and won one singles and also one doubles title on ITF Circuit. 

She surprisingly took the defending champion and the No.1 seed, Naomi Osaka to three sets in the first round of the 2019 US open.  Blinkova reached the first two WTA semifinals of her impressive career in 2019 at Guangzhou and Luxembourg. She also made quarterfinals at the Bronx and reached 3r at Roland Garros. She went further to lift the WTA 125k Series title at new haven. Blinkova reached her best singles ranking No.54 in February 2020 and she had previously peaked at No. 51in doubles rankings on October 21, 2019. She made second career top 20 win at 2019 Doha over Sevastova (No.12).  

Blinkova has been in Slovakia for fitness training in other to help her get closer or higher among the first hundred players in WTA rankings.

He is currently a head coach at the international Empire Tennis Academy in Trnava. He is the former coach of the 2014 Australian Open finalist, Dominika Cibulkova. Platenik is a native of Bratislava and is the vice president of the professional tennis coaches association for Slavic countries and also a PTCA-certified. She was previously coached by a Croatian coach, Mislav Hizak.
