1. Antti Suomela started playing hockey at the age of four
Antti Suomela was born in Espoo, Finland to his parents on 17 March 1994. He was raised in Espoo where he began playing hockey at the tender age of four.
His dream at that time was to make it to the NHL sometime.
2. Playing career
Antti Suomela made his Liiga debut during the 2015-2016 Liiga season playing with Espoo Blues. He caught the attention of the NHL and so he agreed to a one-year entry-level contract with San Jose Sharks on June 6, 2018.
Suomela made his NHL debut on October 3 2018 and recorded his first NHL point in a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on 5 October 2018.
On July 11, 2019, he was resigned as a restricted free agent by the Sharks to a one-year, two-way contract.
On 7 October 2020, he signed another one-year, two-way contract to continue playing for the Sharks. He was later loaned by the Sharks to join the Finnish top-flight Liiga club, HIFK on loan until the commencement of the delayed 2020-21 NHL season.
He made 10 appearances for HIFK and added 2 goals and 5 points before he went back to the Sharks organization.
Suomela was traded to Toronto Maple Leafs on 12 April 2021 in exchange for Alexander Barabanov. After his contract ended with the Maple Leafs, he signed another one-year AHL contract on 15 June 2021 with Toronto Marlies.
