Ashley Force Hood is a retired American race car driver who made history as the very first woman to claim a win in Top Fuel Funny Car drag racing. She made a name for herself in the league of the best drag racers across the world before quitting the sport to focus on raising her family. Ashley was born on November 29, 1982, in the town of Yorba Linda, California to John Force, who is a sixteen-time NHRA Top Fuel Funny Car national champion, and his wife, Laurie Force. Ashley has two younger sisters named Brittany and Courtney, and they are both professional car racers; and an older half-sister named Adria Hight, who happens to be married to Robert Hight, an NHRA drag racer.
On the academic front, Ashley Force Hood completed her early education at Esperanza High School based in Anaheim. She was a member of the school’s cheerleading team. She attended California State University, where she finished with a communications degree in 2003.
Thanks to her father’s influence, Ashley fell in love with drag racing and began competing professionally in 2004. She went on to win the Top Alcohol Dragster title at the 50th Annual Mac Tools U.S. National, ending the year with a fourth-place finish in driver points naturally. She became a part of the professional league in 2007, as a member of her father’s racing team. The subsidiary was primarily involved in creating and developing media products and projects. She also revealed that she had a baby on the way, so she would be taking a break from competitive racing in the 2011 season.
In 2014, Ashley returned from her break as a test driver for the John Force Racing group, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. She renewed her NHRA Funny Car license but did not return to the sport as a competitive racer. She currently serves as Vice-President of John Force Racing.
