Born on June 6th, 1985, Sauerbrunn was raised alongside two older brothers Grant and Adam by parents Scott and Jane Sauerbrunn. Her mother revealed she was the most unathletic individual during her school days, and neither was her father Scott, hence it was surprising that their daughter took to athletics.
Becky was born in St. Louis, US state of Missouri. Her early education started at Ladue High where she started in football, volleyball, and basketball. Before this time, she fell in love with football when she played bumblebee soccer as a little girl in kindergarten.
By the time she was in middle school, her talent earned her a place in the Olympic Development Program in Missouri.

She had another go at the 2015 FIFA World Cup where she helped the United States to win the tournament in Canada after defeating Japan 5 goals to 2. Becky ended with a silver medal at the 2011 tournament after losing to Japan in the Finals.
She was invited again to the 2019 FIFA World Cup in France where she aided the team again to take home the coveted prize after defeating the Netherlands by two goals to nothing.
