Carli Lloyd is a veteran American-born soccer playmaker whose resilience has as a midfielder is overwhelming. She plays for the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) with which she represented the country at various successful competitions including the 2015 and 2019 FIFA World Cup as well as the Olympics. She also plays in the NWSL for NJ/NY Gotham FC

With both her clubs and country, Lloyd has risen to become one of the most decorated female footballers in the world having started her career more than 2 decades ago.

Carli Lloyd Biography, Early Life

It was as Carli Anne Lloyd that the football star was born in Delran, New Jersey on the 16th of July 1982. She was birthed into the family of Steve and Pamela who are of the white American ethnicity. She has nursed her passion for soccer since the tender age of 5 years even though her parents wished for her to become a ballet dancer.

Carli attended Delran High School where she was an active soccer player. Her matchless performance made her be named as the Girl’s High School player of the year twice in 1999 and 2000 by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Carli Lloyd was also instrumental to the concurrent winning of the state cup for the Medford Strikers club while she was with the team, which was in her teenage age.

From her sophomore year, she has already started setting many records; she scored 26 goals and made eight assists while she piloted the affairs of the team. Again, she was named to the Star-Ledger All-State First Team twice between 1999 and 2000 in addition to the Parade All-American honors other soccer bodies also acknowledged her awesome performance

As a result, the South Jersey Soccer Coaches Association (SJSCA) named her as the Midfielder of the year, while in 2000, she got the title of the Courier-Post Player of the Year.

After graduating from High School in 2000, Carli Lloyd was accepted into Rutgers University, she joined the college team the Scarlet Knights where she made history by being the first student in college history to be part of the first-team all-conference honors for four straight years as well as being voted to the NSCAA All-America team three times. However, she graduated from the college in 2006 setting a record of over 50 goals.

Her club career has been impressive

Carli Lloyd’s professional career started while she was in High school when she played for several clubs in the W-League such as the Central Jersey Splash in 1999, New Brunswick Power in 2000, and South Jersey Banshees in 2001. Carli was a relentless player that even during summer she played for the New Jersey Wildcats in 2004 though she made only one appearance for the club.

Following the return of the Women’s Professional Soccer, Carli then joined the Chicago Red Stars in 2008 where she started in 14 of the 16 games she featured in for Chicago Red Stars and she was able to score two goals as the Red Stars manage to finish sixth on the season with a 5–10–5 stats.

Carli became a free agent after the season. That was when she took the decision to join her home club, the  Sky Blue FC. Next, she signed for the Atlanta Beats for the 2011 season. She left the team in 2013 and joined the Western New York Flash and then she later joined the Houston Dash.

Next, Carli went on loan to Manchester City in February 2017, playing in the FA WSL Spring Series. She played with the team for a while before she moved to NJ/NY Gotham FC where she was named the 2018 NWSL Second XI. She is still playing for the team.

Quick look at her international career

Carli Lloyd’s international career is even more impressive than her club career. She started playing for the United States at the Under-21 level in 2002. She played with the team until 2005 when she was called to the senior team.

As a team player of the under-21 team, she made a strong impact during the Nordic Cup,  winning the tournament for the fourth time back-to-back from 2002 to 2005. It was on July 10, 2005, that Carli made her debut for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team in the match against Ukraine. She scored her first international goal in the match against Taiwan on October 1, 2006.

Carli Lloyd also played the Algarve cup in 2006, 2007, and 2011 she was able to win the third cap. And in 2007 she was the highest goal scorer in the tournament and was awarded Most Valuable Player in the tournament. Carli also made an appearance during the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she scored two goals including the winning goal during the finals with Brazil which led to the US team winning gold in the tournament. And was then named as the US Soccer Athlete of the year.

Carli was also part of the 2015 FIFA world cup team as she finished the tournament with a four-game goal-scoring spree including a hat trick in the playoff against Japan, her skills and efforts helped the United States team to clinch their third World Cup title, she won the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament.

Carli also made history as she became not only the first female player but the first-ever player, to score a hat trick in a World Cup final, as a result, her third goal earned her a nomination for the Puskás Award.

To crown it all, Carli broke the jinx as the first player to record 46th international goal, in October 2013, thus, becoming the highest-scoring midfielder in the team’s history, breaking the record set by Julie Foudy who finished her career with 45 goals. In essence, her international performance can be said to be more of a record-breaking one than her club performance, she is indeed a great American patriot.

In 2019, she represented the United States at the FIFA World Cup where she helped the team to win the tournament, and then in 2021, she helped the team to claim the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.

Is She Also A Volleyball Player?

It is important to point out that while she is a highly talented individual on the field of play, Lloyd is not also a volleyball player. She has often been confused with Carli Ellen Lloyd who is a successful Volleyball star.

She also plays for the Volleyball team and helped the US to win a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro. that said, the two women are different.

It was back then at High school that Carli fell head over heel with her then-lover, and husband Brain Hollins, who is a renowned golfer. The lovebirds tied the knot in November 2016 is a luxurious beach wedding in Puerto Morelos Mexico. And they live in Mount Laurel, in New Jersey.

Carli is now 37 years old and she has a great height of 5 ft 7 inches or 170 cm tall, she still maintains a good weight of 64kg that allows her to be flexible in the pitch. She has a light brown eye color and dark brown hair, and her body measures up to 36-27-5-37 inches. Making her quite attractive and agile.

Again Carlie was featured in a commercial for Xfinity and signed another endorsement deal with Visa.  In April 2016, she was named brand ambassador for Lifeway as she also appeared in yet another commercial for Heinekin beer in that same year.
