Caroline Seger the Swedish international soccer star currently holds the record of being the most capped player in Europe. She beat the records formerly held by Germany’s Birgit Prinz and her fellow Swedish and erstwhile teammate Therese Sjögran.

She currently plays in the Damallavenskan for FC Rosengard and the Swedish women’s national team. And also serves as captain for both club and country.

Seger who plays as a midfielder has featured in 4 FIFA World Cups, 4 UEFA Women Euros and is about to make a fourth in the Olympics for the national team. Professionally, the midfielder has played in the US for Philadelphia Independence and Western New York Flash. And also in France for Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

With footballing days coming to an end, she is unsure about what the future holds. For her, the experiences and the knowledge she holds amount to waste if she doesn’t use it in football.

Who Is Caroline Seger?

She was born Sara Caroline Seger on 19th March 1985 in Helsingborg, Sweden to her parents. And is currently 40 years old. Though details regarding her family background remain sketchy, available information shows that she has a brother; Mikael Seger, and two sisters whose names are not known.

The midfielder started her youth career with local teams in the late 90s; playing for Gantofta IF, Rydeback IF, and Stattena IF between 1998 and 2004. Her senior team career began at home in Sweden, where she played for Linkopings FC for 5 years before moving to the US. While in the US, Sager played for two more clubs, before returning home again.

After playing for Ldb FC Malmo and Tyreso FF in Sweden, she moved to France Where she played for PSG and Olympique Lyon. Now she is currently playing for FC Rosengard.

She represented her country at the under-17 and under-19 youth levels, before being called to the senior team in 2005.

Seger who professional club career began in 2004 has played for different clubs in Sweden, the United States of America, and France. According to the media, the midfielder has an estimated net worth of $1-$3 million. She made the money from her football career and other endorsement deals.

Currently, the media hasn’t been able to discover who is dating, but there was someone she allegedly had a relationship with in the past. It was her former teammate Malin Levenstad, who retired from the game at 30 in 2014.

1. Seger Beat Sergio Ramos To Become The Most Capped European Player 

15th June 2021 marks the day the Swedish and FC Rosengard captain became the most capped player in Europe. It happens after she won her 215th international cap in a friendly match against Australia in Kalmar which ended in a tie.

She has now beaten Sergio Ramos who until now was the most capped European player with 177 international appearances for Spain. She has also broken the joint 214 caps record previously held by Germany’s Birgit Prinz and her former Swedish teammate Therese Sjögran

2. The Midfielder Has Been To 4 World Cups, 4 UEFA Euros, And About To Make A 4th Olympic Appearance 

This is a record the Swedish captain would hold dear to her heart. It is not easy to achieve such a feat in football. She has been anything but excellent for the team; featuring in 4 UEFA Women’s Euros (2005, 2009, 2013, 2017). And 4 FIFA Women’s World Cups (2007, 2011, 2015, 2019), and 3 Olympic games (2008, 2012, 2016).

And currently en route to making a fourth Olympic appearance in Tokyo.

3. She Hopes To Make A 5th UEFA Women’s Euro Appearance

In order to to create a platform for female athletes to be recognized, the Swedish Football Foundation. And Isobar, a creative agency under Coca-Cola honored the midfielder and 4 of her teammates with public statues in 2019.
