Charles Martin is an American professional boxer with a record of 29 knockouts at the moment. He previously held the IBF heavyweight title but lost to Anthony Joshua after 85 days. As such, his reign became the second shortest in heavyweight boxing history.

1. He is From St. Louis, Missouri 

Charles Martin was born on April 24,1986 and he’s 39 years old at the moment. From what we garnered, he was raised in St. Louis, Missouri but moved to Colorado Springs and later Phoenix as a teenager. 

Information about his family background and early life has not been established. As such, details about his parents and other family members are not known. What is known however is that he juggled several jobs at a young age and got involved in construction work.

2. Charles Martin Made His Professional Debut in 2012

Martin has not revealed what inspired him to start fighting compared to boxers like Joshua Franco and Viddal Riley. However, he joined as an amateur fighter and recorded 64 fights before he made his professional debut in 2012 when he was 22 years old. That same year, he won the National PAL Championships, and the following year, he made his TV debut on ESPN when he beat Aaron Kinch by a fourth-round TKO.

3. He Has Been Matched With Reputable Boxers

Since Charles debuted in 2012, he has remained a force to be reckoned with in the ring. He defeated fighters who had undefeated records including the likes of Vincent Thompson, Joey Dawejko, Alexander Flores, and even the Cuban Heavyweight, Glendy Hernandez.

He has also fought against the British star Anthony Joshua as well as the Polish contender Adam Kownacki and Vyacheslav Glazkov.

4. Charles Martin Lost His World Title in 2016 after 85 days of Reigning

As you would find, Charles Martin previously held the IBF heavyweight title after earning it in January 2016. However, when he lost it in April of the same year, he became the second shortest boxer to have reigned as a champion for only 85 days in boxing history. This comes after Tony Tuckers who recorded a 64-day reign in 1987.

Martins lost the title to Anthony Joshua during his first title defense at The O2 Arena in London on April 9, 2016. He was greatly criticized for giving up quickly and seemingly lacking the zeal to win the fight. This came after it was observed that Martin failed to get on his feet quickly enough to continue the fight.

However, the former IBF champion rather blamed his defeat on the prefight distractions and admitted that he was mentally not there. Nonetheless, he has since gained ground and is ever ready to be at the world’s top. According to him, it seems the stars in his generation are not ready for him. Thusly, he’s going after stars in the new generation.

5. Is Charles Martin Married?

At the moment, Martins has been lip tight about his lovelife and it’s difficult to assert if he is married or not. Nonetheless, he previously shared a family photo of an unidentified woman alongside his children. While she is reported to be his wife in many quarters, this has not been confirmed by the boxer.

The American boxer Martins is a proud father of 4 children. He welcomed his first child and son when he was quite young. Details about the child as well as his mother have not been disclosed by the boxer.

He also shares three children with his partner and their identities have not been disclosed to the public.

7. Charles Martin almost Lost His Life in 2016

According to sources, Martian was involved in an altercation with two men which almost cost his life in August 2016. While the fight didn’t end up bloody, the boxer was shot in his forearm as he drove away from the scene. He revealed that he thought he would bleed to death until the cops arrived and saved his life.

He underwent surgery to get his wound treated and on August 10, 2016, he checked out of the hospital.

8. He Tested Positive For Covid 19

During the 2020 pandemic, Martins revealed that he woke up with a fever after his fight with Luis Ortiz and the result indicated that he was Covid 19 positive. Consequently, his whole family kept themselves quarantined in a hotel. He later disclosed that his children didn’t get so sick.

9. How Tall is Charles Martin?

Charles Martin is one of the tallest professional American boxers. He stands at 6 feet 5 inches which translates to 196 cm or 1.96 m. At his height, he has an impressive reach level of 80 cm.

10. He is Estimated at $2 Million

As stated, Charles Martin earns from his professional career as a boxer. However, he hasn’t disclosed how much he makes from each fight with leaves the question of his net worth unanswered. Nonetheless, Richathletes estimates him at $2 million judging from his fights and lifestyle.
