The Phoenix Native’s Basketball Journey Began In High School

Dalen Terry had a spectacular high school basketball career which first started when he was attending Corona del Sol High school in Tempe, Arizona. Subsequently, he transferred to Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix where he spent two years playing incredibly averaging 15.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 10.3 assists, 3.7 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game.

As a result, he became one of the top recruits in the 2020 class. He became the first in his 2020 class to commit to college basketball in July 2019 when he committed to the Arizona Wildcats after receiving several offers from other programs such as Arizona State, Arkansas, California, USC, and Utah.

Terry didn’t have much of an impact in his first year at Arizona after averaging 4.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game from 26 games. However, there was an improvement in his second year after 38 games, he averaged 8.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. More so, he was named to Pac-12 All-Defensive First Team due to his defensive performances.

By 2021, he was instrumental to the Wildcats’ successes; winning the 2021 Roman Main Event, Pac-12 Conference Regular Season, and also the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

While at the top of his college career, Terry decided he would want to move to the NBA, so he declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. The decision drew reactions from people who wondered why he wants to be Draft so soon when he still has more time as a college player.

So in June 2022, he was selected in the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. This marked the beginning of his professional NBA career, however, he is yet to be offered a contract by the Bulls.

1. Terry Was 8 When His Parents Divorced

Dalen Terry’s parents ended their marriage when he was barely 9. Although there are no reports of that, an Instagram post shared by his mother in May 2020 points to this fact. She said 10 years ago she traveled to Hawaii to sort herself regarding the finalization of her divorce, however, she didn’t mention who she was divorcing.

Based on this, it is possible she was talking about her divorce from Terry’s father. Additionally, Terry’s father married Kris Terry in 2015.

2. His Two Half-Brothers Are Following His Footsteps

The two half-brothers (Isaiah and Tre) of the former Arizona Wildcats shooting guard are honing their skills to become basketball players. They have Terry and their father for support.

Currently, Tre is a member of the East Valley basketball club which is owned by their father’s nonprofit foundation Valley Elite Hoops.

3. He Is Not Related To Jason Terry

Dalen Terry has no blood ties with former NBA player and assistant coach of Utah Jazz Jason Terry. The only they share is the surname “Terry.” Therefore the Phoenix native is not related to Jason.

4. The Small Forward/Shooting Guard Is A Fashion Enthusiast

Besides basketball, Terry is passionate about fashion. Consequently, he started “Publicly Private”, a fashion brand that provides high-quality branded t-shirts such as DT Wildcat, Publicly Private, and Team Merch. The price ranges from $25 to $50.

5. He Has An Ideal Height For Small Forwards In The NBA

Dalen Terry’s height is 6 Feet 7 Inches (201cm/2.01m). A height such as this is advantageous to a player who plays as a small forward/shooting guard in the NBA. It was said the average height of an NBA small forward is between the minimum of  6 feet 5 inches (196cm/1.96m), and a maximum of 6 feet 10 inches (208cm/2.08m). Based on this, he is above the minimum, nearly getting to the maximum. Additionally, the small forward has a body weight of 88kg (195lbs).

Dalen Terry was a four-star recruit in the 2020 class and ranked 46 in the country. He impressed and helped the Arizona Wildcats to win a couple of titles between 2021 and 2022 before he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Based on his high school and college achievements, there is every possibility that he would become one of the best small forwards/shooting guards or legendary NBA players such as Shaquille O’Neal.
